How hard is this game exactly?
HI all.

I've been debating buying this game for awhile now, and I've been very in and out about it. Mainly because that's just what I'm like when I play horror, I worry I'll get too scared and end up disapointed with my purchase. I've been getting better recently, making it through Outlast 1+2 and Whistleblower just fine.

But this game looks VERY different from Outlast. And feels different. I played the begining hour demo afew weeks ago, and wasn't too much of a fan (mostly because everytime I died I had to go back to the main menu) but there was also too little lighting, and character movement was too slow to basically get around.

But after realising that I could just turn the brightness up after I uninstalled it (I'm stupid, I know) I felt alright about it. but recently I watched Gameranx's "Before you buy" episode on this game, and it repetedly said how hard this game is. And after the demo, I began to understand where they were coming from. Now my greatest fear isn't getting scared, it's "how hard will this be?"

I'm not a hardcore gamer, I don't have much patience for seriously hard games (like AVGN Adventures and Abe's Oddysee, even though, in the end, I did beat both of those.) Now I understand mainly where the difficulty sets in:

1. Trying to hit enemies.
2. Trying to hit enemies in the right place.
3. Running away from threats.
4. Resource managment. (This is the big one, probably.)

I believe that, alike most horror games, RE7 is about resource managment, mainly of ammo and healing items. But I'm ending up comparing this to Outlast alot, is it anything like managing the batteries and (second game only) bandages? OR is there something different, or is it just harder.

I also understand this this game is less like mainstream survival horror games, and more like classic Resident Evil, which was shooting zombies from a fixed third person perspective. Now I believe it's returned to its roots after a lackluster 5th and 6th installment, only this time from a first person perspective. Resource managment is key, but I believe there may be other tips and tricks aswell.

So, at the end of the day what I'm asking is, "How hard is this game going to be?"

Not hard at all even at Madhouse.
The map design is fairly simplistic so you can memorize the layout of the corridors fast.

The random encounters with Jack (outside the mandatory boss fights) are heavily scripted and very limited to certain areas. Therefore his patrol areas are rather predictable and he's more like an annoyance than a threat really.
Plus the knife attack is ridiculously overpowered in crouch mode and can easily stunlock him anyway, should you want to "kill" him.

Common enemies can be baited and locked up easily in rooms. The game respawns them later to their original place later when leave the area, but it's easy to converse ammo this way.

Game pretty much showers you with combinable items, so resources are not really an issue.

If you didn't find out last scary then you definitely won't find this game scary. Also this game is very easy at normal and easy difficulty, you get unlimited saves and there are save typewriters everywhere even if you die you will only get setback maybe 5-10 mins of progress, also you don't need to fight monsters apart from the bosses, since you can run away from monsters and they disapear. Plus even if you fight monsters you get way way too much ammo, you can kill everything and still have enough ammo for almost another run, my second play through on madhouse I finished the first half of the game with over 90 pistol ammo, 30 shotgun ammo, 5 flame ammo, 2 neuro ammo, and tons of supplies left to create tons more ammo and health (however I skipped 75% of the molded).

My tips for you on your first run on normal will be hide alot, on normal difficulty the people that chase you are basically blind you can be right under them and they won't see you.

Tip number 2, make neuro rounds as they are super easy mode on bosses because they slow them down by alot also make enhanced ammo for boss fights.

Tip number 3 always block when a enemy is close and coming to attack and don't try to dodge by running since 99% of the time you will be too slow and get hit, also duck when jack swings his weapon because ducking will avoid the hit.

tip number 4 always close doors behind you to stop what's behind the door from coming to you since molded can't open doors, and they will dispawn.

tip number 5 don't invest your currency on weapons first get the other options first as they are far more important.

tip number 6 always save, if your playing normal or easy then abuse saves and save constantly even if all you did was loot a area.

tip number 7 don't be afraid to use ammo in dangerous situation, however don't spend a single shot on the people that are not molded and are constantly patrolling areas.

And finally don't get your expectations too high by judging the beginning since that will change drastically towards second half imo.

If you're decent at video games it's not that hard. Especially on the easy modes, it's really not much of a challenge unless you put yourself in a terrible position

Exactly? You have a difficulty selector so you basically decide how much easy or hard the game will be. If you want it to be easy, you can play on Easy. You'll only have Easy and Normal for your first playthrough anyway, since Madhouse must be unlocked first.

Cheers all. :-)

Easy apart from Jack's scissor fight...

Was thinking it was easy. After all, I was taking that from Gameranx, who I also remember saying that Outlast 2 was hard, but when I played that, I really had no difficulty issues.

it will not stat

The game is not easy... it's not insanely difficult, but you definitely have to play conservatively. Those who are saying it's easy should not be heeded

I ran out of things a few times on my first playthrough. But the game is more generous later on. I was never COMPLETELY out of resources. But there were a few times where I had nothing to heal with that put me on edge. I'll also say that the game doesn't signpost very well. I got obliterated by obstructions at a few points because I didn't know there was a solution until I stumbled upon it halfway through the area.

The real difficulty comes after the main game though. Ethan Must Die and Madhouse difficulty are far more difficult than the main game.

very easy. I think I might have died one time during my whole playthrough
