One gun or two?

In older re games I would only carry one gun to save room. will that work in this game? shoudl I carry only a hand gun or shot gun so I have room for extra items?

The amount of items you need in this game is actually very few. Normally you will only need one "quest" item at a time, so the biggest inventory hogs will be health and ammo. I found that you should try to carry at least a shotgun and handgun at all times. There's a few other weapons I could give advice for but it would spoil the game. Basically, the other weapons you encounter are only good for the area they are in or for saving ammo on your all too valuable shotgun.

Also keep an eye open for the back packs in the game because they add a row to your inventory, thus making more room for ammo. There should be more ammo in the game than you will need to use so try to carry a lot so you can take advantage of the abundance.

Try to carry at least one full stack of first aids. You can have three in a stack. Use your yellow chemical fluid to craft first aid and your red chemical fluid to craft enhanced handgun ammo. All of the other craftable items are a waste of resources due to them being either inefficient or redundant.

Early in the game yes, your knife, a handgun and a shotgun are all you'll need (you won't get more than that anyway). Then later, other weapons will show up but you will also gain access to two inventory expansions.

Anyway, it's normally not recommended to carry more than 4 weapons because the inventory management is in real time, and you have four weapon shortcuts.
