Disposable keys? (minor key item spoilers)

Are the primary keys (scorpion, snake, crow, etc.) disposable? I assumed the game discarded them after you opened all possible doors with them, but I've been carrying the scorpion key for a while without having to use it, so I'm wondering if I should just put it on the item box and be done with it.

Put it into the box. Scorpion key has 2 doors to open, snake has 3 (not sure, might be 4) and crow has 2.

All in the main house, you don't need them pass that.

Don't worry, I've been carrying the car keys after the Garage fight for half the game until I noticed.
