RE7 wooden statue?

I've picked this up from the bath tub but it isn't in my inventory. I assumed this just appears in a key item bit but I've been running around for ages and there's nothing else to do so I assume I need the wooden statue to cast a shadow on the wall downstairs in the main room, but there's nothing to place there not even the statue I just picked up? Just herbs that I'm carrying and some coins.

What am I missing?

But it said "take" and then soon after the man burst through the bathroom, and I ran away. The item has completely disappeared from my inventory. I checked a guide and it says you need it for the light puzzle downstairs so I don't know if this is a bug or there's a secret inventory I don't know about?

Hmm, and you had enough inventory space right? You're probably simply overlooking it. Remember to check the D-pad section to your inventory too. Sometimes items go in there.

Did you have room in your inventory to carry? you may have triggered the event in the bathroom but not actually taken the statue? work a check back in the bath tub

I'm literally a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idiot. It was in my 3rd key item slot (up, down etc) but it was greyed out so I didn't really see it.

Well, let's just blame this on the fact that I had the man chasing me and I was panicking, it was a very confusing 20 minutes.
