It's actually a really good experience in my opinion regardless of what they say. They can't complain either, like you said, better than nothing =).
The big issue here is mostly that this method does not enable the many many design choices that have been made for VR and many forced camera events will feel very unnatural for the player.
Just for anyone out there looking to play Resident Evil 7 in VR, do not buy VorpX for this, this is not the VR experience the game was designed for, but it will give you a cool glimpse into what the VR version can be.
As an owner of an HTC Vive and an Oculus Rift CV1, it is truly dissapointing they chose to make VR exclusive.
I don't know why you're telling people not to even bother trying it, I'm having an amazing VR experience with it. I'm crapping myself here and I think it works incredibly well with VorpX.
I'm mostly just telling people to not buy VorpX on the premise of playing a game properly designed for VR if they are expecting something like the PSVR version. I have no doubts it's incredible in VR, but many of their VR design considerations are clear to see in footage of the PSVR version and many events in the game can be disorientating in VR because the standard versions design do not take the HMD into consideration in this mode.
And I love it! It enables me to get a lot of new perspectives from any non-VR game.
I just don´t understand all the haters who think it´s not worth it, but who never took the time to play with it and make it run properly.
If you can afford a VR headset, then go ahead and buy Vorpx, as it will help you in playing many old and new games in a way never conceived by the designers. And that is a lot of fun!
I don't recall me ever hating on the tool, I'm actually saying it can deliver a pretty good experience for what it is, I wouldn't call that hating.
I have multiple VR headsets and I do develop software for this type of hardware, so I regard them as more than just basic 3D viewers and VorpX cannot be anything more as the design of the software doesn't permit it.
In a world where there is a properly designed VR version of a game coming out, I think it's fair to highlight that this method of playing the game in VR will never match the VR experience the developers intended and people new to tools like VorpX should be aware of that.
As said before, VorpX is a very cool tool that can enable you to use a HMD in many games that does not natively support it and sometimes the results are pretty good, but it will never be a replacement for a properly designed VR experience.
Playing the game in which there are a lot of interactions God himself ordered to make your hands with via tracking, SEATED, is not an option for a true VR experience
As long as you can not accept what you have, you won't ever really have something worthwhile.
