That said though, RE7's a completely different writer so... here's hoping. The whole game seems like a soft reboot done right, so there's a good chance things will be smoother from here on out.
Well, since they wrote the game off as canon and the multiplayer is you as Umbrella fighting off other corporations trying to steal samples also that still makes it count as part of the canon.
If not simply provide proof otherwise. Because I can easily just say look at ME3 and its multiplayer. Its canon to the main game and that isnt the only game that pulls off canon from multiplayer experiences.
Again, agreed. I've been defending RE7 because it's a big change, big move, and a big risk. I want to be supportive here because if the fans aren't supportive and if the company hasn't been happy with RE's direction and the reviews. It's possible they might simply scrap the franchise. RE7 is a huge step in the right direction and it took a lot of courage for changing up the formula. For that I say to capcom. Bravo.
I defintiely prefer this. As much as I LOVE the playstyle of the original series and the playstyle of 4 and 5 (screw 6), I extremely like the new feel... I had strong vibes of being like the original just in first person and man was it amazing for me. Whatever they choose to do though, I just hope it isn't another mainstory (0-6) that doesnt ruin everything completely like 6.
Totally forgot about the Alone in the Dark games!! :D Nice catch!! I am not sure I played Haunted House though lol. But yeah if Resident Evil 7 copies anything it was only small elements from other games like F.E.A.R. But I think someone who wrote F.E.A.R. worked on Resident Evil 7. I am not sure if that true or not.
You don't play as anyone from Umbrella, you play as a generic soldier from a generic organization performing random missions while fighting against other players. There's no story in the MP mode, you're just "someone" working for some organization, doing some mission in some quarantined place.
The Experiment does actually have a background story (nothing to brag about but a story nonetheless) and even a concrete timeline, but the multiplayer missions just can't be canon because they simply have no plot at all.
They did say they understand people like the old style and the third person style in a recent interview and they aren't ditching it entirely. In a perfect world I'd like:
Resident Evil Revelations (Continue this spin off series where it's in RE4-5 style.)
Remakes (They're already remaking 2. Hopefully the remakes remain in the old style.)
Resident Evil main games (Stick to first person survival horror at least until RE9)
This will please all the fans they've created. Now I do think they'll stick to first person survival horror until at least RE9. Here's my evidence regarding that..
Resident Evil 1-2-3: Classic controls/style.
Resident Evil 4-5-6: Third person over the shoulder camera.
They did something slightly different with three (quick turn, able to evade attacks, etc.)
They did something slightly different with six (Even more action and more scenario's.)
So if they follow patterns we'll have 7-8-9 with some modifications to 9's structure.
Oh dont credit me on that nice catch! It was Tommy that brought that up. I completely missed that one too!
But getting grabbed by an enemy a foot away from my face cause the camera wouldn't let me see it? Nah that was irritating, not frightening.
Multiplayer is one side is Umbrella (your side always) and the opposing team is suppose to be a rival company. Like I said earlier, provide proof otherwise and I'll simply say you made your point but until then I still consider it canon like I consider ME3 MP to be canon and there is zero story there too but its still canon and they have no plot at all as well but yet its still canon to ME3. That isn't the only game to do that also so until proven wrong I'm simply marking MP as canon to a game considered canon.
Some tend to forget that the Resident Evil games weren't a 10 out of 10 back in the day. They had their flaws. One of the major flaws back then was the bad camera angles. This video kind of makes fun of it but proves a point lol.
