What movies do you think inspired the series?

I'm going to leave out my opinion for now, but I was thinking hard about all these slow-burning little to no action movies people think inspired Resident Evil and it's "true survival horror." I wouldn't call myself a horror movie buff, but I watch alot of them and most have rising action and a climatic ending if not just outright action including explosions or other light shows.

Lol. It was scary watching it as an adult. Never should have ruined my nostalgia.

I'd love someone forever if they could point me to a game that nails Labrynth or Dark Crystal. I know dark fantasy still exists, namely The Witcher, but man was that a different kind of vibe with the puppets.

You should watch Alien and Aliens though be aware some effects in Alien didn't age well. We rented alot of movies back then, dubbed VHS tapes and, had cable for a few months at a time. Oh yeah, and Blockbuster and 12 for a $1 movies clubs became a thing by my teen years.

Pretty good endorsement if there is no nostalgia to cloud judgement for Isolation.

Overall theme in the game early on feels very "Evil Dead" to me, only thing missing is Ethan attachng a chainsaw to his stump.

I thought they were going to do that at first. I was fully prepared to have no hand the entire game. That'd mean no shotguns or rocket launchers.

Wish they played up the SAW angle more since that's one of the few horror movies I think resembles what people seem to think Resident Evil is which I actually like.

Look up some Wrong Turn clips on YouTube. There is a fight where a guy get lit on fire and the inbreds seemed to have super strength. Though I do see Texas Chainsaw in it. Definitely Michael Myers with all the disappearing and reappearing.

Ever since the first game Capcom put a sci-fi spin on horror. Loved how they worked ghosts into hallucinations. I'll give this game that.

Maybe The Last Man on Earth is what started the infected stuff. Maybe it was Resident Evil that started zombies as infected rather than raised from the dead.

The sci-fi aspects with viral infection? Not sure specifically where that originates.

Sinji Mikami in some interview mentioned movie Species (1996). It's not about infection, but about some secret science experiments.

And I think Mia is Mia from Evil Dead remake)

Yeah, I can see The Shining influence now that you mention it. That was psychological horror.

Mostly evil dead and TX chainsaw massacre, I think.
Also the intro and setting seem to be heavily inspired by True Blood.

Yeah, I already stated that in #27 - and what inspired the game "Sweet Home" was indeed the movie of the same name ...
