Item box reward?

I heard that you get a reward for beating the game without opening the item box more than 3 times.

How exactly do you do that lol?

Not sure what the reward is or if there's any at all but there are exactly 3 times you need to interact with the item box: 1. During the door code sequence before you go through, 2. After the "Happy Birthday" sequence (remember to get the crank and D series arm), 3. When you regain control of Ethan. Just play on easy and pick up what you need and avoid being a pack rat. In other words, don't interact with the box unless you come up to these sequences.

I think it would be wise to wait until you earn infinite ammo before attempting this.

Don't think it would be possible while you need to keep ammo in your inventory.

I did this before getting infinite ammo. I did use the Albert pistol though.

I already have infinite ammo, my issue is that if I want to access it in the beginning I lose two of my three chances. Then I have to use it for Lucas, and a third for picking up the D-arm and D-head.

I can then no longer pick up stuff after I regain control of Ethan.

How would infinite ammo help? The genious of this achievement is that you can open the box only three times and you are required to open it three times troughout the game!
Before and after party and right before the mines, because otherwise it's not possible to climb the certain ladder at the end.
There's a thing of not picking up a grenade launcher and it spawns in the cabin, thus giving you a weapon, but even on easy one flame round would not be enough to kill the monsters. Maybe with resource luck you can create more, but then there's a final boss question.

I.e. - this achievement is freaking great. You can't cheat it with unlocks. I wish they also forced you to play on normal instead of easy, but oh well, we just can't have everything.

Yeah I don't think I'm gonna try it until I've beaten it a few more times. At least I can pick up post-game rewards near the end-game.

Its actually pretty easy. Even on normal you get ALL ammo you need to fight the boss right in the boss room. So In reality you only need to carry shotgun and ammo for it. Everything else you can discard.
This would not work on madhouse as you constantly swap cassets and other stuff.
