Torpedo Question
I have some frigates with armor piercing torpedos.

But in combat i cant see any torpedos firing. Iam looking for some slow projectile but cant see something like that. Is this wrong? Can i see somehow if they fire? Is their a known reason they dont fire?

Have you tried enabling "Allow Excessive Missile Attack"? I think there might be a setting for disabling and enabling missile use also so check that, it's an in battle setting not in the options but like on that little bar at the bottom I believe.

I use this always, but cant see any difference.

ive noticed this a few times... Sometimes they will fire sometimes not when they are just moving. They always work if you actually click and target the enemy ships.

Same here. I did notice on a few occasions that the target was out of the firing arc...so double check

At what kind of slot did you place torpedoes? Haven't you checked firing range?

Torpedoes on capital ships do not work well for me. The ships are too slow to survive long enough get into effect range to launch them. Then when they do, they are usually get taken out by defensive fire. I only add them to fill out weapon slots when I’m too low on power to add more energy/beam weapons. Although, I prefer missiles … they add to my point defense umbrella.

I thinks it’s a balance issue. Right now the computer design their ship with enough point defense, or weapons that can be used for both offense and defense, that torpedoes on capital ships are next to useless. Maybe, the higher levels torpedoes would be more effective. But, by then you also have better energy/beams too.

Now, torpedoes on fast fighters or bombers, is another story!

My torpedo frigates work fine. A single frigate can destroy few Bogovan destroyers and cruisers.

Hmm … I’ll give it another try. Maybe if I get rid of the heavy beamers and only have just enough for close in point defense. Then load up on torpedoes. Less power hungry weapons then I can reduce the weight of the power generators … increase my speed. More torpedoes, faster speed … may work.

Love this game so much possibility.

Ive noticed this with missiles too. They should be firing long range but do not see them?

I find if I put both energy weapons and torpedoes on the same ship, with the energy weapons having more range, my ships tend to stay at their max weapon range firing the energy weapons without ever getting close enough to use the torpedoes. If I manually direct them to get closer, suddenly the torpedoes fire. So basically, don't mix main weapons with different ranges, it confuses the tactical AI.

What happens with fighter type (or small) ships that are carrying ONLY armed torpedoes for their weapons load?
HardCastle Apr 8, 2016 @ 4:47am
Torpedoes armed fighters can spam the target ... overwhelming the point defense. Add some shields to the fighters and they even live for the next battle.

They are great for taking out the tough battle stations with shields.

If there are enemies Combat Air Patrol around send some fighters with beamers to help protect the torpedoes squadrons. I usually have about a ratio of 2 to 1 mix of fighters with beamers to torpedoes armed ones.

Early in a battle I use the fighters with beamers to fly CAP to protect my capital ships from the AI attacking fighters. Once I closed with the AI capital ships … then I send in the torpedoes and any surviving beamers.

Classic carriers vs carriers tactics … just in space … LOVE this game!

This is the first game I've ever played where fighters actually matter. Every other game it's always bigger = better.

Ok, I’m a convert. Several techs did it for me. Longer range Torpedoes and cluster installations. The first helps with the standoff distance. The second lets me spam more torpedoes. Nice.

Exactly. Not since Space Empires I have felt the same until now. Go Polaris!
