I thinks it’s a balance issue. Right now the computer design their ship with enough point defense, or weapons that can be used for both offense and defense, that torpedoes on capital ships are next to useless. Maybe, the higher levels torpedoes would be more effective. But, by then you also have better energy/beams too.
Now, torpedoes on fast fighters or bombers, is another story!
Love this game so much possibility.
They are great for taking out the tough battle stations with shields.
If there are enemies Combat Air Patrol around send some fighters with beamers to help protect the torpedoes squadrons. I usually have about a ratio of 2 to 1 mix of fighters with beamers to torpedoes armed ones.
Early in a battle I use the fighters with beamers to fly CAP to protect my capital ships from the AI attacking fighters. Once I closed with the AI capital ships … then I send in the torpedoes and any surviving beamers.
Classic carriers vs carriers tactics … just in space … LOVE this game!
Ok, I’m a convert. Several techs did it for me. Longer range Torpedoes and cluster installations. The first helps with the standoff distance. The second lets me spam more torpedoes. Nice.
Exactly. Not since Space Empires I have felt the same until now. Go Polaris!
