Deprecated save files (cloud saves/PC/Steam Deck)
I've been playing this game for the first time and loving it a lot. I primarily play on the deck but sometimes play on my desktop PC.

Here's the thing though, once in a while when I try to boot up a save, I will get an error message saying that my save file is deprecated and I have to restart the level. It hasn't been a problem because I usually save at the start of a mission so not much progress is lost. But this time, I was nearly finished with a level (Lord Yabu's estate) when I got the error.

Is there any fix for this? I think it mostly happens when I switch from Deck to PC, but it doesn't ALWAYS happen so I'm confused.

I think I figured it out. My PC has version 2.2.1.1 of the game, while my Steam Deck has 2.2.1.0, an earlier version.

So now the question is, how do I get my steam deck to use version 2.2.1.1?

Try the following:
Set the game to run under Proton Experimental on the Deck. This forces it to run the Windows version of the game, not the Linux version which has saves in a different location. (At the game page in your library, click the gear icon, Properties, and Compatibility. Click the check box to "Force the use..." and select Proton Experimental). Once that is done, cloud saves should work fine between PC and the Deck.

Please post whether or not this works for you, as it could also help somebody else with the same problem.

Hello! Just wanted to come back and update. Today I was finally able to try your suggestion, and it worked!

Thank you for the tip.

Glad it worked for you. Thanks for the update.
This worked for me as well as I was having the identical problem! Thanks so much for posting the fix as it was really killing the buzz I was getting from playing on my new Steam Deck.
