very unstable on mac
the game keeps crashing (at least 5 times since i started it a little over an hour ago). it tends to run quite smoothly until totally out of nowhere (often when trying to open a menu or load or save the game), it freezes up and that's all she wrote.

also once after loading from a crashed game it gave me an error the next time i tried to save, then it crashed again and then apparently erased all my saves too. i navigated in my finder to where they were supposed to be saved but the folder was empty. luckily i had not gotten very far in the game, but i had to start completely from scratch. and who is to say this wont just happen again sometime, hours into the game. lame.

some other posts with similar but worse issues (constant freezing from game launch) have talked about reverting to V1 of the game. seems to me that this is an issue that needs to be fixed rather than just saying, "use an old version of the game and it might work better."

if we were allowed to spend money on a game, the agreements is that the game functions. so far the devs are not living up to their side of the deal.

very frustrating, as it seems like its a pretty cool game.
i hope this is fixed very soon!

im running this on a late 2015s 27 inch retina 5k iMac.
10.13.6
4ghz intel core i7

Hi,
sorry you are having problems with the game.

Since you are running 10.13.6, i wanted to bring your attention to the system requirements for Mac OS X, stated on the store page for Shadow Tactics:

"Additional Notes: MacOS version with 32bit app support is required - MacOS 10.14 or higher is NOT supported. MacOS 10.13 is supported on a limited basis – compatibility is not guaranteed, you may or may not experience issues with the game."

This is due to some engine limitations/bugs, that were not addressed in the engine version we use for Shadow Tactics. It is currently not planned to update ST in the near future (we are hard at work on our next game), much less the engine version we use for it. So right now, we sadly cant do anything about the issues you are experiencing.

it is a lot more stable at lower resolutions, but it still crashes more often than id like (especially at level transistions and loading screens).

A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

What's the engine used? Never mind, found it on Google: Unity. Will your next game support a newer version of the Unity Engine on MacOS? 64 bit and Metal for the graphics would be good. :)

you also want to regularly check your quicksave file directory (found in the application support under the developer name). the game often does not delete saves when they are supposed to be delted (ie every 3 quicksaves), which can then fill up your folder with junk saves (at 3-5mb a pop this adds up). this will then try to sync with your steam cloud every time the game quits (or crashes), which will make it take a lot longer to restart the game and waste a lot of your cloud storage. make sure you delete the extras while the game is still running to make sure that it updates the steam cloud properly. also, it fills the root folder with .pngs for the save game thumbnails, which you will also want to detele manually. also, it might not be a bad idea to simply disable the steam sync function for this game entirely (under update properties) to avoid this issue, but you may still want to clear out the junk saves from the folder on your mac periodically either way.

if they are no longer supporting this game for mac systems it really should be less than the $40 they are asking for. you pay top price for a game, you expect it to function, and continue to function on the newest systems as they come out for both pc and mac. if it is so outdated that it no longer even funtions on newer systems it should be selling for $10 at most. it is too bad, i want to support the devs becaus it is a cool game, but that support needs to go both ways.
