[SOLVED] Game crashes on startup
With Win10, 1920x1200 res screen.
The game keeps on crashing on startup.
And there will be an error logged by Windows. Its error type is APPCRASH, with ntdll.dll which meets an error coded 0xc0000374.

Installing 2.2.2 patch, or installing VC10 redist package, or verifying data integrity, or using "-skipmovie" option will not help.

Solution is to modify registry to lower screen resolution used by the game on first-time running.
1. run regedit.exe
2. goto "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Daedalic Entertainment GmbH\ShadowTacticsBladesoftheShogun"
3. change "Screenmanager Is Fullscreen mode" to 0, which means turning off full screen mode
4. change "Screenmanager Resolution Height" to "384", which means setting height to 900 pixels
5. change "Screenmanager Resolution Width" to "5A0", which means setting width to 1440 pixels
6. start the game, and the error has gone

after the first-time running, registry will be reset by the game, but it's okay and there's no need to modify them again.

hope this will help others who facing the same problem:steamhappy:

Hi, i made this set up, but I have to do it again each time I start windows. How to save this settings? And from this set up it started to shut down during game. Maybe it is another problem, not connected with this one, but I don´t know. It writes: "The game crashed. The crash report folder named "2020-01-26_123008" next to game executable. It would be great if you´d send it to the developer of the game!". I tried it on notebook with 3840x2160 resolution and win10 and also on my PC with win7 and resolution 1920x1080. Same problem.

I have met same problem sometimes, and I found if I turn Microsoft game tool bar off, the problem will be solved. Maybe you can make a try.

Hi, sorry, but i don´t know what is the Microsoft game toolbar? Where it is. It is directly in the game, or in steam, what does it do?? I tried to google it, but no reasons, pictures. I am confused.

Anyway I tried to reinstal the game on NTB and PC. On PC it works without problems (WIN 7). On NTB it still crashes. I think that the problem is Asus NTB, I red some forums and problems have always users of Asus NTB. Even the good ones. I have NTB for 1,5TEUR, it is not any low cost model.

I am sorry for not being able to help.
Maybe you should ask for technical support from developers, not me...

Assuming you're on Win 10, just open the start menu and try game bar settings, open the settings and click the "Record clips, screenshots and broadcast using Game bar" option off.

I've tried on 2 PCs, installed both via XBOX Beta and Steam... it almost always, but not every time, crashes on the title screen. This sucks.

I play it only on PC, on Asus NTB it is not playable, the problem still occur. It is wierd, but when the problem shows on the NTB, the same message is on the PC. But if I don´t play it on NTB or instal it there, I have no problem on PC. It is really annoying. I haven´t found option to solve this problem, i play it only on PC.

Got the game today and had to enable the compatibility setting for ShadowTactics.exe to "Windows 7" on the first start to get the game working. Just changing the registry values like mentioned above didn't help.

me as well. I just uninstal it on NTB Asus and play it only on PC with WIN 7 and have no problem. But I haven´t changed anything in the registr. I tried one time, but it didn´t work, as you wrote. I don´t know what to do with that. But it is only this game which does such a error. I think that it is not windows´ error, but the game is wrongly set up. Developers should take part in this issue and solve it..

Cheers - this worked for me.

Dear devs, I've just experienced the similar issue with this game (crashes on the game's start up) and the solution presented here solved it. However, there is a reasonable question: why on earth, considering the issue in question (according to this thread's posting date) is well known since 2018 (!) and its solution is known by the devs by the same time, why is it not fixed by November (almost) 2021? 3+ years (over THREE YEARS, Carl) since it has been reported and it haven't been adressed by devs with anything (like, y'know, patch?) except a quotation of someone's (blessed he be) registry-tampering manual user-side solution? :winter2019surprisedyul:

Excelent point!

I have tried all of the above methods to fix the start up problem. My game opens and loads for about 4 seconds and then the dots at the bottom of the screen stop moving. I have left the game on for over 10 minutes but nothing happens. I have changed screen resolution, opened in Windows 8 mode, deleted the user folder in C drive, changed the reg settings and nothing works. I am on a Dell Inspiron 5570 with Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 with 8GB ram. Any help would be much appreciated.
