Devs could start a croudfunding thing just for a coop add on. I would start throwing money around. <3
SAVAGE!
The sales would not rise dramatically if this feature were to be added and yet it would cost quite some investment to impliment. The game has been designed completely witout coop and so forceable adding it would comprimise a lot of the game mechanic and the feature would be added retoactively with no set game play parts that were specificaaly designed around the coop.
As such it would not be easy and cheap to add, would comprimise the game and may not bring any worthwhile return.
Rumour has it the dev is working on a new title also - something that would in theory bring in a lot of sales for the dev time talen cvompared to an update to add a feature to this title.
It is s shame you will not play the game unless it is brken from it curent amazing state into something it isnt - something that you want it to be. Partly as then you will never experience the greatness the game already is but also as the chnges will probably never happen and so you will not ever own the game.
Why not just try the demo?
