So thy're not just for fun (not all of them), but to add additional challenges
By the way, the Badges icons are really beautiful. Good job !
yay I hate when playing a video game I feel like i'm forced to play a certain way to unlock skills or abilities.
I dunno, but it seems like backwards game design when developers reward people for playing a game well by giving them stuff to do even better and stuff to play with when people who do bad are the ones that are going to need those tools more lol.
I disagree. That's why the badges' list is only displayed after the first run : so you can play as you want on your first try.
For example the ninja could be granted a horned Oni mask, the samurai a Naginata, sniper golden gun (classic!).
I wasnt thinking in skills or abilities. Maybe some kind of skins for the characters, or some kind of photos from an art book. Just a little reward.
Sure, but it would be nice to have some special outfit for each character as a reward,a simple cosmetic =)
Right now there are two games coming to my mind. There is Giana Sister TD, in which you unlock artworks by finding hidden gems in the level. And Assault Android Cactus, where you earn points after every level, with which you can buy artworks, bios, background information about the universe or extra game options (like a 1st person mode, JJ Abrams Lens Flare Filter, change the size of the heads, etc). As you progress through the game, you also unlock the games sound-effects and music, that you can then access through an audio player in the main menu.
I really liked that. Maybe think about something like that for a sequel. It doesnt remove content from the game, but gives some extra motivation for a replay.
And then there are non-effort achievements like "run 500m with Kuma"..
