Shadow mode - Attack with gamepad?
Heyho!

Recently I found out that you can play Shadow Tactics via gamepad, which is very comfortable for me, since I prefer playing on the couch.

One problem though: when in Shadow Mode, I couldn't find any way to actually link kills to the different characters. Like for example in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRi5gbX14aY (i mean the 3 kills at the campfire).

The problem is, that you can't select "attack" or "kill" and an enemy afterwards. With gamepad you walk towards an enemy and press the attack-key to kill him. Of course that doesn't work in shadow mode, since you want to determine the kill BEFORE you walk to the enemies.

Is there something I missed or do gamepad-users really have a big drawback here because the shadow mode is nearly useless?

Thanks!

Walk up to an enemy while in shadow mode and enter the kill/knockout (while running or crouching). It is the same as clicking on the enemy via mouse.

The only backdraw is that you potentially lose a little bit of time on gamepad, since you have to walk over to the enemy. We're thinking of stopping time completely while in shadow mode to prevent this, but sadly it's not quite that simple..

Hope this helped, have a nice day! :)

Thanks! "We're" reads as if you are one of the developers?!

How about bringing attacking into the L1-Scheme where all other actions are (like Sake, the trap, and so on)? In this case I could just select Mugen, instead of selecting Sake I would select "attack with knife" and could target opponents just like I can target them with Shuriken or other skills. Hayato can also target opponents with Shuriken out of distance in shadow mode, so you could do the same with normal attacks and wouldn't lose any time. Besides the time you lose, there is always a risk to be caught for gamepad users, who want to do stuff like that, while keyboard users don't risk anything from linking the attacks out of sight.

Changing the melee kills to a ranged targeting system like the Shuriken would be confusing since they aren't ranged attacks. Stopping time while in shadow mode would solve the 'lost time'-problem, but there are still problems like entering a dropkill with shadow mode on gamepad since the target needs to be in dropkill range for you to do so. So if youre entering the shadow command when the target is in range already it is almost useless to enter any command in the first place and instead you could just dropkill him in rea-time. AND this is not fixed by stopping time in shadow mode, in fact it would make it worse, because you still can't enter the dropkill command from a distance like with a mouse. Still need to come up with the perfect solution.

Yes, I'm the concept guy :) Thanks for your input and concerns !

Alright, here is another solution:

When pressing and holding the button "left", your cursor changes to the eye-cursor and the player can interact with every enemies field of view. In this scenario you're free to move the cursor whereever you want.

Why not use this?

Press "Up" to enable Shadow Mode -> Hold "Left" and hover over an enemy -> Pressing X to set "Attack This Enemy" (or Square for knocking unconscious).

Currently just "Triangle" is set for "Hide field of view", but the other buttons are free.

(Sorry if the terms are not correct, I'm playing german edition. Probably could also talk german to you, right? :D Great game by the way!)

Oh my god. I'm such an idiot. Forget my solutions. I never understood your first answer. :D "Walk up to an enemy while in shadow mode and enter the kill/knockout (while running or crouching). It is the same as clicking on the enemy via mouse."

I thought with that you really meant that I walk up to the enemy in real time, click, walk back, and then do the shadow mode. That's why I thought of other solutions.

I never noticed that you can actually walk with a SHADOW of your character, when in shadow mode. How cool is that?! :D That's why you said gamepad users only lose time when doing that.

Sorry, man! Just never noticed the shadow person.

Haha, no problem Ysuran! Sorry if my first reply wasn't very clear. Hope this solves your problems for now (yes, the shadow mode does have a few tricky situations on gamepad... :)

Good luck with the rest of the game, in case you haven't finished it already! Stay vigilant.
