To travel between areas you need to sail into the blue portal area (looks like the quest marlers sited near a fortress, semi enclosed by rocks
Thanks for your response. I didn't take the ship as my own, rather a trophy ship. The ship I was attacking looked different, but likely no.
And is it normal that everytime you go into the water you have to face enemies?
you will always have to fight, but depending on the faction flag (called letter of Marque in the game) you're flying, ships will ally with you, with the sole exception of the pirate flag - pirates can go either way.
You start out with a pirate and a trade condeferation flag (which has a symbol like a laurel wreathe) (click on the pirate flag at the bottom of your screen to chage it).
So to do this just simply move around near to the icon until there are no battles directly on top of the icon.
Also IIRC you have to capture X amount of a single type of ship to get it for yourself
Lastly, any tips for boarding? I have quests to board 3 ships in one battle but its quite difficult.
Let your enemies or allies weaken themselves, you can shoot or do some rammings,
Choose wisely which target to approach while you lurk outside their range,
When they start coming for you,
Kite them around, first weakening their sails, when their sails are nearly gone, dont let them be parked too close to each other, while you continue kiting, best to board only one ship per fight if you dont have alot of crew.
When the sail is fully down, and stationary,
Start to rid the crews circling around it avoid its firing cone and the boarding circle,
when their crews are depleted
Play smart and avoid the boarding circle unless you are sure can win with more than enough fighters.
IF you do not have enough fighters,
Move out of the range against the wind to escape at a slow pace but keep the enemy in your zone range,
When you are out of battle, move all your gunners and majority sails to fill your fighters.
Slide back into the battle windward for easy Boarding.
I've come across another inconsistancy. I have 500 crew, the enemy I damaged to 80 crew, somehow he still has 10 soldiers and I have 5. I don't get that component. Any help please?
500 is just the strength of all the crew total, if you have 500, its just a few sailors, you would lose even if the enemy had 80?, since they will be shooting and a few fighters will pop over.
The enemies always have a minimal crew with full shooters and a few fighters even you depleted its crew,
just you will see them with low hp when in boarding battle.
Dont enter boarding unless you can fill up your max shooters and fighters.
Read my earlier reply again on how to win a Board,
you can win even with the starter ship, no mods and just one cannon against Frigates I/II.
