Oddly, my progress from a previous multiplayer session has been carried over, even though I changed my profile name and deleted the Tempest registry key, as suggested elsewhere in these forums. I'm not complaining... saves me re-doing a bunch of stuff. However, I'm still not 100% sure I'm actually offline. I thought I was offline once before, and people started joining me.
Tempest has a pile of fun in it, but also an equal pile of bugs, glitches and downright weirdness. I guess the fun is worth digging for, but so far, I've done quite a bit of digging.
I will have to double check when I get home if I am accurate or not

You are correct, and you can bet I don't have any plans to stop playing Tempest!
I know I'm excited for the next DLC and the patches that come with it haha
