What is there to be done online with friends?

So what exactly can you do with someone cooperatively? I get you can do quests alongside (not sure if they share automatically), from what I figured out so far, but how can you actually trade or give stuff or crew to each other. Can two players board a ship at the same time to increase an attack, or just first come first served? What are other cooperative activities/actions that can be done? Thanks.

As far as I know, the only truly cooperative thing is a friend giving another one supportive fire when the other is boarding an enemy. Then the cannonballs of the shooting friend will rain down as AoE-artillery on the enemy on the battlefield.

From what I noticed, you can friendly fire as well while boaring.

That's unfortunately possible, so I guess it's your best bet if your friend starts bombarding the enemy right at the beginning.

I wish there would be a way to trade items. I tried dropping them or selling them in cities, but so far I did not find a way to move one item from one player to another
