CONTROLS!
Why, you did not, add "default" option in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ controls? I wanted, to set steering control, and now, i don't know why, my car always ride backwards... AND I CAN'T CHANGE IT, BECAUSE THERE IS NOT ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ "DEFAULT" OPTION! What i have, to do now, in that situation?!

Hi, sorry to hear about your situation. Unfortunately, having no default option for controls is an issue with the game engine I am using. Just as is not having an "inverted" option. But you can remap all controls at any time. In the menu that appears when starting the game just click the Input tab, like you did to change the steering. Double click any key or controller axis/button set and then press a new key or controller input. Make sure to not have duplicates, like the same key for steering and brake/throttle for example. Or the same joystick axis or button, if you're using a controller. Just choose something different for steering and brake/throttle. Also, the controls initially set to keys can be remapped to joystick buttons or mouse buttons, and vice-versa. The default for controller is axis_0 for steering (that is left joystick on an xbox controller) and axis_2 for throttle/brake (that maps to left/right triggers).

It looks like you probabbly have the same key or controller input set-up both for steering and for brake. Please make sure to select different inputs.

Ok, first of all, sorry for my nervous message, i set it correctly now. Anyway, you made a very good game. Do you plan to add a multiplayer mode? That would be great. :)

Thank you, I'm glad you are enjoying the game. I would really like to add multiplayer to the game, but it's something that I am not confident I can do by myself. Hopefully there will be a way to do it properly.

Despite changing default keys, using a controller and changing from auto to manual and back again, I am immediately thrown into reverse and no matter what keys or buttons I press, I am still going backwards with a good view of the wall I am going into. I can steer but that's about it.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear about your troubles.

It seems you have a duplicate control setup in the input settings. Please remap the controls and check to not have the same keys or joystick axis chosen for example for steer and gas/brake.

It's a little bit confusing, there are two Steer settings (for left and right keys) with two options each and there is also a Steer set by default to joystick_0_axis_0. These all work at the same time so please make sure no setting is duplicated. Using the controller does not cancel the other Steer setup.

The same goes for throttle and brake. There are separate Throttle and Brake settings, and then a Throttle/Brake setup for a controller axis (Joystick_0_axis_2 by default). It helps to not use the same joystick both for steering and braking for example.

Unfortunately, the engine I am using does not have a "reset input to default" option, but here is a list of the default input setup (it might help):

Control ...................... Primary ..................... Secondary
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Steer(+) ..................... right .......................... d
Steer(-) ...................... left ............................ a
Throttle ...................... up ............................. w
Brake ......................... down ........................ s
Left Weapon ............... z .............................. k
Right Weapon ............. x .............................. l
Look Back .................. left shift .................... joystick button 3
Camera ...................... c .............................. joystick button 2
Pause ........................ escape
Steer .......................... Joystick_0_axis_0
Throttle/Brake ............. Joystick_0_axis_2
Left Weapon ............... joystick button 0 ....... joystick button 4
Right Weapon ............. joystick button 1 ....... joystick button 5

As you can see the first set of controls is by default assigned to keys but even if you've changed them to controller buttons or joysticks the second set is still in effect.

It is possible to set the first Brake setting to a joystick axis and have the same one for Steer down on the list, or any other combination. As the game will read all these controls at the same time it will do all actions assigned to the same button/key/joystick, no mater if it's the first setting or the second. So none of the settings should be duplicates.

Thank you for your patience and please let me know if you were able to fix the issue, as I do hope you get to enjoy the game properly.

Thankyou for your prompt reply. This has explained things somewhat and I've finally got the car going forwards, which was the problem I was having. Now I just have to get the hang of it :steamhappy:.

Using an Xbox 360 controller, left and right triggers are shown in Battle Riders settup window as Joystick_1_axis_8 and Joystick_1_axis_9, respectively.
Either one I assign as "Throtle/Brake", the car goes reverse in manual mode.
Any help?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

For the Xbox 360 controller the triggers are assigned by default to throttle/brake and the setting should be "joystick_0_axis_2" or in your case "joystick_1_axis_2". The triggers are handled by the game engine together as a single joystick axis (axis_2). This is specific to the Unity engine and I have no control over it. That's why I've made a separate (single) setting for both of them: "Throtle/Brake".

Try setting the "Throtle/Brake" input back to "joystick_x_axis_2", if possible. Or you can try to set the individual "Throttle" and "Brake" settings to the triggers, but, in order to not have duplicate controls, you have to set the "Throtle/Brake" input to something different (maybe an axis of a joystick you don't use for the game).

You shouldn't have any duplicate settings for any of the controls in the setup window. If, for example, "Joystick_1_axis_8" appears both for "Throttle" and for "Throtle/Brake" it will create issues. Check the controls list in the above post for reference.

Please let me know if you've been successful in setting the controls the way you like. Thanks!

I guess my mistake was to set up controls on the first launch...
Now, I cannot reassign "joystick_0_axis_2" to Throtle/Brake, as the game reads my Xbox 360 axes like this:

https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/852722829037928239/8FCC3FADBA65CC3427E8DF272BEB8C5091EAF67D/

Also individual throtle and brake settings ignore triggers input.
Anyway, if I set them to digital buttons (a, b, x, y) it works fine.
Thanks for your reply! :)

There is actually a way to reset the controls to default, but it also resets all game progress. You can use the Reset Game button from the Game Stats menu. It resets everything back to default, including all settings from the start game menu.

It worked after the reset.
Thanks again!

That control system is quite clunky. Took me about 15 minutes to have it working. Acceleration / brakes can only be affected to an axis, which is already annoyin by itself. The triggers on a xbox controler are considered an axis, and of course affecting acceleration / brake to that doesn't work. The game treats both buttons as different axis rather than being each one way of the same axis. And affects button pressing to brake.

Could find a way around it like that, though. I had remapped everything annoying to numpad, weapons to the left and right buttons on the gamepad (since I can't use triggers for that), acceleration to A, brake to X. Later on I decided to use auto acceleration, since the situations where you actually need to brake are far and few... But when restarting the game the controls had changed to :

Control ...................... Primary ..................... Secondary
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Steer(+) ..................... right .......................... d
Steer(-) ...................... left ............................ a
Throttle ...................... joystick 1 button 0..... w
Brake ......................... joystick 1 button 2..... s
Left Weapon ...............[3].............................. [5]
Right Weapon .............[4]............................. [6]
Look Back .................. joystick 1 button 1.... [0]
Camera .......................joystick 1 button 3.....[1]
Pause ........................ escape
Steer ..........................Joystick 1 axis 0
Throttle/Brake ............Joystick 0 axis 2
Left Weapon ..............[3]...............................[5]
Right Weapon ............[4]..............................[6]

As you can see, weapons are no longer bound to the gamepad. If I restart the game and my weapons have suddenly become inactive because the game decided to remap some of the controls by itself, that's gonna be a little bit tedious. The game is rather fun so far, especially once the second league is reached, but that control mess needs fixing.
