Gratuitous Space Battles

Would cheating the honor points get me steam banned?
Let me set something straight first: I love this game. Some time ago, I even had everything unlocked legit, back before the galactic conquest DLC I think. However, since then I unfortunately had the corrupted save problem, and had to delete everything and lost all my progress. I haven't played it that much since.

With the release of the latest race DLC, I've suddenly got a craving to come back and play this game some more. However, I only really want to play galactic conquest with everything unlocked, and I don't want to go through the tedious process of playing through the single player missions again.

Now, I've found online an easy method to just cheat myself all the honor points I need. It involves copying the whole GSB folder, editing the first mission file in that copy, running and beating the mission in that copy, then deleting the folder. After that, the save data in My Documents should still have all the honor points I need to unlock everything.

But here's my question: Would this make Steam Cloud freak out and get me steam banned? I love the game and just want to have everything unlocked without going through the hassle again, but I have far, far too many games on this account to risk steam banning over one game.

No.
Not at all. Because it's stored in a text file, it's not only easily modifiable, the entire game is very modable. If you want some more info on mods and so on, hit up the official fourum. Plenty of good content there.

Definitely not. GSB doesn't use any of steams banning or account verifying stuff.
Oh hey cliffski, I didn't realize you were the dev before. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question personally. =)

As for you Blixil...

Definition of "integrity":
The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.
The state of being whole and undivided: "territorial integrity".

I fail to see how my being worried about getting steam banned and losing hundreds of dollars worth of software counts as a lack of integrity. You would have been more metaphorically correct though just as literally incorrect to tell me to grow a spine or pair of balls, which is the sort of message I believe you were trying to go for.
