Controller Issue
I'm running 3 different controllers through x360ce , a Logitech wireless rumble 2, and 2 8bitdo SF30 pros.

All controllers seem to have an issue with not being able to go down-left.

I can rotate the left analog through the full range of motion, and there's a very specific point during the rotation, where it's a dead spot.

Windows 7 does not see this problem (going into usb game controllers and checking buttons and stick movement), nor does the x360ce config. It's just FMF.

Any ideas on why this might be happening and how to fix it?

I looked into this. No one else has reported it, and I could not replicate any dead zones on my system. It happening on 3 different controllers is very strange.

Since it does not happen when using Win7 tests, it might have to do with a Steam configuration. Can you go to Steam > Settings > Controller, and see if any of those settings might conflict.

Also make sure you are not running any third-party controller software that may conflict (for ex. DS4Windows but that's for PS4 controllers).

I'm running through x360ce, an x360 controller emulator.

I disabled it, and the issue goes away, but so does controller functionality...

Third-party controller emulators should not be necessary to run the game. Even if our game does not support certain controllers, Steam should. Please disable DS4Windows, and go to Steam > Settings > Controller > General Controller Configuration, and turn on PS4 Controller Config and see if that works.

Hmmm, I had the controller set up to id as a bluetooth x360 controller (which is not actually a thing that win 7 supports, yay) which meant steam wasn't detecting the controller at all.

I reset the controller to id as a generic, at which point steam picked it up as a DS4...
I'm running FMF right now, with no issues, and I didn't have to set up DS4 configuration through steam either, so that's a little weird (because it's responding correctly as if it were a 360 controller).

I'm not running DS4Windows either, in case you care.

Either way, thanks for the help!

Running into this issue, too, on an 8Bitdo SN30 Pro. This controller is designed to emulate Xbox controllers depending on how its connected, but can also do D-input. Had a few other controllers laying around so did some testing:

Xbox 360 controller (wireless): Works

Xbox One controller (wired): Works

Xbox One controller (BT wireless): Works

8bitdo SN30 Pro (wired): Has the issue
(Emulated wired 360)

8bitdo SN30 Pro (BT wireless): Has the issue
(Emulated BT wireless XB1)

8bitdo SN30 Pro (wired): Works
(using D-input mode, instead of X-input)

So, seems like for me, its only when I'm using this third-party controller in any X-input mode. The common thread seems to be third party controllers/emulated X-input, maybe?

Tried a few things to fix it, but no luck so far:
-Disabled all controller mapping programs.
-Enabled/disabled Steam controller configuration
-Restart steam client.
-Reboot.
-Removed, reinstalled game.

Windows 10 Pro x64 v1709 (fully updated)
Steam Client is up-to-date, and not opted into the beta.
Intel i5 4690K
AMD Radeon R9 200

Doesn't seem to be a very wide-spread issue, judging by the lack of talk. At least I have some other controllers laying around!

Edit:
Okay, so this wasn't the case initially, but now its working fine when I have Steam controller configuration enabled, but has the issue when I disable it. So, no big deal then, just going to enable controller configuration!

We believe it to be an issue with Steam's XInput wrapper. They have their own, which can conflict with ours if we ALSO have one. The weird thing is there seems to be no option to disable it in the API, so we have to do a bunch of workarounds to get them to play nice. Enabling controller config seems to address most of the issues though.

I have run into the same issue with both of my 8bitdo controllers.

Just bought the game today and am having this issue as well. The easySMX 360 controller I use doesn't want to move the character SouthWest/Diagonally down-left, however I have a Rock Candy 360 controller (which installed its own driver I believe) and the issue wasn't there.

Again, what worked for me was disabling *any* sort of third party controller emulation, registering the controller to steam , and using it as a generic controller managed by steam.

I don't have any third party software installed or enabled. I did the Big Picture Mode stuff and it didn't work.

You might need to change the PS4/Xbox options in the controller settings to Steam if generic controller isn't working.

I'm not sure why this game is conflicting with Steam's input wrapper when our previous game has no problems, even though they use the same input system. Perhaps it's because our previous game uses an older version of the Steam API.

I see you're using a controller with native emulation.

This seems to be an issue, for whatever reason.

Uninstall whatever drivers the pad uses, connect it in DirectInput mode, (*NOT XInput*), have steam detect the controller, and make sure all inputs function correctly, then try the game again?

I have also noticed a similar issue using emulated inputs (not using steam's controller setup) in the Divinity Original Sin games.

Removing any thirdparty emulation and going through Steam, fixes the issues for me every time.

Thanks for the quick reply. i tried to switch between modes but with the other mode my character was not able to move at all nor react to any button pressing.

So i tried your idea to switch the gamepad to other mode THEN start the game and it worked!! Now i can move any direction freely without that deadzone. I also had to reconfig the buttons because the X was the Y and the A was the B and vice versa. The only problem persist is in the menu i have to keep B as a confirm button instead of A. (It doesnt allow to reconfig this option via rebind menu altho there is an option for it with a little lock?) So this one is less annoying problem i just need to get used to it like in Monster Hunter series if anyone know that game's layout. The point is i can enjoy the game, thank you so much!

Hmmm, i noticed some annoying thing with the new method. if i press the power attack (B button) it display visual cooldown to button A. if i press the evade button ( A button ) it gives visual cooldown to button B. it's kinda confusing. :steamsad:
