How to add a second player in local PC co-op
So I'm sure this is obvious to most people, but is there some trick to adding a second player on the PC version of this game? I've got my Xbox controller connected via USB, and it's on. In the selection screen it says to press Start to join, but it doesn't seem to recognize the controller.

This is the first time I've ever used a controller for a co-op game on my laptop, so there's probably something I'm missing.

All you need to do is press Start on the controller while in the profile select screen. If that's not working, then it might be an issue with the controller. It should work out of the box, but you can also try fiddling with the Steam controller settings in the Steam settings. Sometimes Staem's own controller support conflicts with our own. We'd like to disable it, but Steam doesn't give us that option.
Try disabling the "Steam Controller emulation" (or whatever it's called) in Big Picture mode. I've had similar problems and messing with the controller settings usually fixes it.

Basically, you want the game to see your Xbox controller as an XBox controller, not a Steam controller.

I read that Destiny 2 blocks the Steam overlay, and by extension also blocks Steam's controller support because they're tied together. Maybe you can find a way to exploit that to selectively disable the controller support?
