[Mods] Custom Ship Links
I've seen a few people starting up discussions about custom ships they've made. If you have any screenshots, concepts, or download links to ships you've made that you would like to share, put 'em in here!

Here's a proof of concept for a market system (even though I see that an actual system is planned for the future)

Welp. That there is far better than any of my mods so far... I created a few ships for Alpha 1, but never figured out how to post pics/files to steam (if you could put a post here showing how to do it, I'd appreciate it).

Once I finish enjoying/bughunting the alpha 2, I'll update the ships, and post them here. I had a complete fleet of ships, complete with recipies. Even saw one as an enemy (sadly, the AI was broken at that point). My "capital" ship was capable of towing planetoids whilst mining them.

Still, you've made a whole marketing system from the scraps in the code. That's pretty cool..
I made the picture (4 screenshots combined) in GIMP then uploaded it as artwork. Copying/pasting the link will make that cool box appear.

ALPHA 5 NOTE - The file formats have significantly changed and previous versions of ships will not work with Alpha 5.

Where are the files for player-made ship templates located now and how can we share them?

Bump for answer as to how to share custom ships

All your custom ship templates are saved in the folder "C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\SpaceImpossible2\templates" on Windows all you need to do is copy them. We will be adding Steam Workshop support to make this easier to do in the future but not sure when that will be.

How do the files work? Trying to add a faction fails, trying to replace on fails, what gives?

If you want to assign a faction to one of your custom ships you can do it in-game with admin commands. I have a video demenstration here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=941544345

thanks bike man, Perhaps this is a solution for now I really wanted to fight my own ships and impress some friends thanks for the response man I'm looking at disassembly otherwise XD

I should add that I started a new discussion a while back with the intention of sharing custom ships with instructions on how to do that since I wanted to be impressed by some of the other player's creations. You can find it here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/416240/discussions/0/1354868867712756924/

What exactly were the problems you encountered ? There a several elements required to add a new faction currently (ALPHA 8).

  1. Create a new faction file and add it to the gamemanifest.json under "factions"
  2. Create your ship/station objects files and add them to the manifest under "objects"
  3. Create "spawn group" files (see base/scripts/spawngroups/grp_ships_*) add those to the manifest under objselectgroups
  4. Add the spawn group/s you created name/s to the "factionseltemplateoverride" section on the basic spawngroups (check grp_basic_ships.json, grp_basic_staions.json)
  5. (Optional) Create a number of region templates with your faction tag and add them to the manifest under "regions"

If it all went well your faction will have the potential to be randomly chosen when entering a new star system (atm each star system has a single faction with occasional lawless/pirate regions).

Its a pretty involved process I know but that should work. However come ALPHA 9 the exact formats of these will change somewhat.

We're unpinning this old post since this was created with the older, pre ALPHA 5 system. Still relevant info at the bottom regarding factions though.

Check on all 5 counts... seemed to produce lots of crates.. always the same two crates... I tried everything, eventually having the full set of files, nothing worked. So then I decided to replace some of the ship files for another faction, this time spending lots of time searching. 4 regions later I concluded the two small crates were all I was going to ever find.

I thought I had the spawn tables misunderstood, so I altered them repeatedly in different ways... always the small crates and remaining factions were all I could find.

But I've backed up the work, perhaps I'll find a way to share it so someone else can solve it. at any rate the ship files can be used, but I'm still perfecting those for general consumption to keep build costs efficient, and updated with torpedoes.
Just noticed this.

Add the spawn group/s you created name/s to the "factionseltemplateoverride" section on the basic spawngroups (check grp_basic_ships.json, grp_basic_staions.json)

Finally I achieve success! I had to remove all other factions in order to actually see my new faction, but now I know it's at least partially working. grp_basic_*** ended up being what I had missed the first time around. And I still don't know if my third (largest) ship is working or not but should be worked out quickly. Now that I have the other factions removed it's probably going to become a total conversion.

That being said I need more ships!!! IF anyone wants to help by contributing ships, stations, turrets, and perhaps new containers or asteroids POST THEM HERE AND EXCLAIM MY RIGHT TO USE THEM!

I will accumulate them, factionize them, and balance them into the MOD. Thanks in advance to all who will help create this total / partial conversion for the rest of the community. :steamhappy:
