How do I download ships?

Hello, I have searched all over the internet and cant find any tutorials (that work) on how to download ships, please help!

On the left side of the screen is a menu. Select Vehicles. Click on either Boats or Ships on the page that comes up. Find one you like, click on the "download" link.

There are other links at the top of that page for additional boats and planes. This takes you to the Virtual Sailor site where you can download ships the same way as above.

There is also a link on that page for Add-on Library. Follow the various links to find what you want.

I download and copy the file to my desktop. Then I right click and select "Open with WinRar" which gives me the contents of the download, even if it's an EXE self extracting file. WinRar is free if you don't already have it. Google it.

The self extracting files don't necessary work well for ships made for Virtual Sailor, but do if they're made for VSF. But manual installation is easy enough.

If you find a "vehicles" folder, simply copy the contents to your vehicles folder in your VSF folder. If you find a "boats" folder and maybe other folders, it's a VS boat. In that case, copy the contents of the boats folder to your desktop, it should be just one folder with the name of the ship. Then copy the panels, instruments, weapons and other folders to the folder you just copied to your desktop. Then move this folder to your vehicles folder in VSF.

I just downloaded the SS United States without problems. If you can't download it may have something to do with the mega hosting site; others have asked about problems.

The zip file contains the file you would put into your VSF vehicles folder, but I haven't tried it. While it appears to be a VSF ship, it may be missing a few files, and there isn't a vehicle.jpg file to display in the vehicle selection screen.

Exactly what happens when you try to download a ship there? Also, try the other links I mentioned and you might find the same ships.

Yeah, I tried all those links and I couldnt find the SS United States, (The Ship I am trying to download) also are you on VSF or Virtual Sailor?

Also, should I download it with MegaSync or through my browser?

I always download through my browser. MegaSync is not necessary and you have to download MegaSync first to use it. Downloading through your browser is like any other download from the Internet.

I am on VSF purchased through the developer's website, not the Steam version.

I realized one possible problem: Steam blocks access to the Mega site, so if you're trying to download through the Steam client's browser it may not work. Use a normal browser instead. Since you know about MegaSync, you should have at least gotten to the Mega site so you should have no problems downloading through your browser.

Thanks for your help anyways, I managed to install the ILE DE FRANCE, SS United States and the Pride of Blue Star Line, but with the Ile De France and the United States they are completely above the water?

I haven't tested this for this ship, but it worked for another boat.

Make a copy of the vehicle.cfg file, then edit the original.

Remove the following lines:

0.00	[hydro_alt]
0.008	[body_cd]
0.00	[hydro_angle]
0.00	[hydro_cruise]

and near the bottom:

0.000		[hydro_cruise]
0.000		[hydro_angle]
10.000		[hydro_alt]

The "hydro" code does not work well in the current version of VSF for some reason, and that last line is probably why your ship is floating in mid air.

There are supposed to be instruments, but there's no States panel file as defined in vehicle.cfg so there won't be any. The default 2D panel (press the P key) should work.
