Mixed Feelings
So, the gameplay itself doesn't feel all that polished as I would expect from a 1.0 release. I have to click several times to get a response from using my tool to remove weeds, I can't see behind tree's because they don't become translucent when walking behind them, and the game literally makes choices for you. For example, when Benjamin asks the character why they came here, the character just answers them. it would have been great if we were offered some kind of option to respond with so we feel like we are in control of our character instead of the game.

I'm trying to stay positive, but I can already feel a change even in the characters themselves. I just don't know if I'm going to enjoy the game as much as I did before when I was seeing great improvements from the original developer, I was genuinely excited to see the characters fleshed out, romances fleshed out, and even marriage options. But as I understand, those were all sacked, and an entirely different direction took place. I can feel it, and I'm very mixed about it.

I don't have hope for the game, especially since they didn't change anything when they went to 1.0. Someone higher up (not the devs) told them to just slap the 1.0 sticker on the game knowing all the bugs they didn't fix and called it a day. Which caused the rating to go to Mixed/Mostly Negative. If someone made a horrible choice like that, then there's probably more where that came from

I blame SOEDESCO partially on that. I bought this game when it was still called Fantasy Farming: Orange Season and was developed by Tropic/Tropical Puppy under Hudell. Hudell left and the studio went or rebranded to Innerfire studios. During that time we had a discord user who heavily criticized all that and cited SOEDESCO's terrible track record and what they do to games. I haven't even heard about this publisher to this point.... Now I'm regretful. This game is not a 1.0 release. It's still very raw. Iremeber testing and playing their betas and giving feedback on Discord. I mentioned the disappearing save issue before the "1.0" release. No reaction to that.

I don't like this and I don't wat to huff in copium. I can't refund at this point. I guess it's best to cut your losses and play any other farming sim.

I didn't know there were other people in the past that complained, well that's even more reason to jump off this ever sinking ship. There are plenty of other farming sims:

Hi, thank you for your feedback. We totally understand where you're coming from but I'm not sure about the track record you're speaking of. As we mentioned in our official statement, we’re aware of the current issues in the game, and our team is actively working on fixing them.

Just to clarify, Hudell made the decision to not be part of the dev team anymore but the rest of the team is still the same, just minus Hudell now.

Most, if not half the games SOEDESCO has published have a mixed or lower rating (I've looked at every single one), weather you see the bad track record or not, it's in plain sight.

Hudell clearly did a good to leave, it's not like either the devs, publisher or Hudell himself are gonna reveal why he left. But we can make speculation from SOEDESCO's track record and the current decision to go to 0.11.1 to 1.0 with no patch notes, when literally every other patch has patch notes.
TripleO Nov 13, 2024 @ 7:48am
SOEDESCO as of this exact moment has

16 Games with a Mixed or Negative rating

11 games with a Positive rating

When the bad out weighs the good, you know there's something bad going on, someome making bad decisions.

As far as I know, Hudell left for personal reasons. Also, I don't think it's fair to rely on only one platform to assume a 'track record.'

Anyway, this not the right place for this kind of discussions so we’d really appreciate if you could keep your posts focused on the game. Thanks for understanding!

Ah yes, we should count other platforms, Playstation has a 2.59 rating with 41% 1 Star and 21% 5 Star, xbox no one has rated it, and switch you can't rate it. Hmmmm I rest my case, a bad publisher is a bad publisher, which makes the games bad (not all tho, but most)

I'm going to leave this video review here (not by me):

I don't remember how much I spent on this game, being as I bought it well before COVID, but I'm just going to chalk it up as a loss. Goodluck to the developers.

Oof, didn't even realize people made reviews, thankfully they're honest reviews

That review by Josh is great.
There's also this review which I really liked.

I know when I got this game in 2019 I could actually play it and I played it for 9 hours straight, but I decided to stop playing it and give it awhile for more updates. When I came back after 4 years it was much worse, and I couldn't even play an hour.

This game was supposed to include marriage and children and now marriage might be a feature?
When it was originally planned to be added in in the 0.5.0 update back in August 2018 and then children planned for the 0.6.0 update October 2018- But I think this was said/planned when the game was still with Hudell/Tropical Puppy.

And here's the one from October (last month)-

The whole marriage thing obviously isn't the only downfall, there's plenty of issues here. And seeing how bad the whole quest line is practically useless.
It sucks to see the nose dive this game took after Hudell left. At least I paid so little and can just cut my loss and move on to better games.

Yea, it sucks, i had this game on my wishlist for a long while. Then when i saw nothing was going on with development, then the massive jump, and saw what could have been with the previous developer, I took it off. It's not worth it, and there are plenty of better games out and soon to be released, so no real loss.

From what I read- this is the top comment on the video I linked--
It was a passionate project that was supposed to be a fantasy farm game with different races, combat, magic, and a vast world similar to Sunhaven, all developed by a single dev. Initially, it received regular updates, but the updates slowed to just one or two per year as time passed. Eventually, the developer sold it to a publisher, who removed many elements, including the fantasy aspects, and changed the map to a nonsensical circular layout. There were no updates for years, but suddenly, it was released on all platforms.

They completely remade/redid the game, removed a lot of stuff from it.
It was better with the single dev in 2019, and with a bigger (?) team it sucks now.

I remember reading that, I guess that's SOEDESCO at work, making the worse decisions.

I saw on one of the patch notes a few years ago, it said that they built the game from the ground up in Unity, because the current engine (at that time) was not for "their" vision for the game. Just giving the previous dev a big old middle finger, because clearly their "vision" is better as we're currently seeing.

I found the exact notes: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/416000/view/3121552948617618656?l=english

"Fantasy Farming: Orange Season was built on an engine that does not fit with our plans for the title. This is why we decided to start a porting process to the Unity engine. We expect this process to be done around May of 2022 and it'll come as a free update right here in Early Access on Steam."

Really tired of bigger companies getting these tiny run dev games and completely changing the vision.
It was much better with Hudell's vision, and was rated positively.
I had 2 games from this company on my wishlist and removed them.

My only regret was not playing the game more before all the changes.
