Gifting and Friendship

How do you gift people things? and what are the "special gifts"? are they just things that the characters like?

You just need to talk to a character while holding an item. Each character has one item that when you gift it to them, they will ask to hang out with you. They are all common items (fruits, crops, animal produce) but each villager has their own.

Oh awesome. Can you gift people things just for giggles? or just the specific ones?

Almost anything can be gifted, but I'm still adding different reactions for each item.

Is there by any chance we can learn some of those special items? No matter what I give to Raphael he won't ask to hang out and I'm not sure what else to give him.

It's all regular items, like egg, corn, orange, banana and so on.

Those are actual items that can be used to invite different villagers. And don't forget that you need to have a friendship level of at least one star.
