Fishing: How's it working for you?
I've been playing a few hours of the game and I'm uncertain if I've run into a game mechanic or a bug while fishing. Please tell me if you've experianced it too!

Half or more of the time I try to fish It doesn't work and I just get the Question mark over the head that freezes the player momentarily. I've even gotten a bit intense with fishing to the point of using a stopwatch and having a friend help with the timing. And no matter what I do half or more of all catches are lost.

I love this game so far and even if this is a game mechanic and not just a bug, I still plan to play it for a few hours each week. It's scratching the Harvest Moon itch in ways that Stardew Valley just wasn't able to do for me!

It's just when I fish all day and land 30 catches but only take home10-12, and half is trash, I feel a bit discouraged.

Or do I just need to upgrade the Fishing Rod? And if so How do I do so? I didn't see any upgrades with the blacksmith for this particular tool.

Well missing a catch is normal in fishing. I wouldn't say I lose half the time, but when I do I often feel I probably pulled too early.

I'd wonder on if the type of fish shadow has any effect given large shaodws mean better fish so harder to catch.

Don't think there is apgrade for the rod.

That's the thing! Or at least one of the things! I've gotten the larger fish from the small shadows and small fish from the large shadows as well. I fill the the shadow size might be meaningless.

As for the timing, I started using a stopwatch to check my timing. Even when I pull at the exact same time, each time, I still lose most of my catches.

I think it means something. Just not exactly small for small and big for big only. Also the body of what you use. There is a small water area in the mine with a large fish shadow I've only gotten one type of large fish from.

Each shadow size, color and location (beach, river or cave) has a different set of items you can get. The better the item, the bigger you chance of missing it is. Timing has no effect unless you're taking so long that the bait showed up in the water again.
I've recently changed some of the item sets and it may have left it unbalanced, I'll run some tests here and change the chances if necessary.

Thank you so much for replying! I'll keep on fishing regardless, I love this game and everything you're doing with it!
