Seriously?
25k for Kahuna? Real money shop? Where are your priorities? How about making custom cross play matches a thing, or working on desync instead of trying to squelch money out of a dead game.

I don't think anything was "promised", I'd be interested in seeing what exactly you're referring to. I know they like communicating with the public and explaining their intentions for the future but that doesn't mean it's promised. It's not been a smooth journey but everything the devs have done thus far have been in the best interest for the game and thus the players.
I feel it's worth noting that steamcharts is showing a Disc-Jam 30 day avg of 9 active players on Steam. 9 players. Let that sink in. And according to psnprofiles, there have only been 53 recent players worldwide... out of the 56k owners on the platform (who grabbed it thanks wholy to the ps+ promotion no doubt)....There's your sign.

You want to increase that number? You cater to the sinking playerbase, and give them a reason to come back. We get it... you're a small team. We also get that some of you will blindly defend them to the end of the Earth. Cool..

That doesn't change the fact that the "improvements" thus far to the game, have been reactive, and have not really addressed the issues that remain. *shrug* All this focus on the long term.... the potential... should be focus on RIGHT NOW.

No one wants to dump more money into a game that doesn't show signs of real change.

At this point, it's going to take a lot more than free weekends and private cross play matches to bring players back too.

WOAH the negative comments in the topic are horrible. I am not a full time or part time game developer. I have worked on my own games in Unity and gotten quite a good amount of progress done in my free time. Even at the lesser skill level of game creation that I'm at, I can say with confidence, games are hard to make.

You cannot call the devs liars when they are still doing things to make the game better.

Look at the situation logically. The game needs to run right to make any content useful.

Regardless of release state and date of the game. From release to now, approx 6 months, the game has been updated and modified.

2 months ago when I bought it, it was really great and fun. Only had occassional lag or stutters, that is now all gone and the game runs great!

I play US East / West.

Producing content for games takes time. For smaller teams it can take a bit more. Add in some fixes, more functions and the whole business portion (new servers for example) and that adds up to a lot of time.

The fact all this has been done:

1. Elo-based ratings, game stats and leaderboards.
2. Skill-based matchmaking.
3. Dedicated servers.
4. Brand new matchmaking solution which allows players to simultaneously queue for multiple game modes and regions as well as slowly relax skill restrictions to ensure players get into the best possible match.
5. Cross-play between PC and PS4 players to increase the matchmaking pool.
6. Introduced tickets to get rid of the salvaging mechanic and allow players to directly unlock the content they want.
7. Added a reporting feature so that players can report toxic community members.
8. Released a new character, Kahuna (12 skins, 6 taunts, 7 victory poses), along with 4 new discs.

AND IT WORKS deserves some big ass CONGRATS!

I never wait more than 1-2 minutes for a match. I rarely wait 1 minute. Let that sink in.

Rarely 1 minute. SkillRank approx 900.

That isn`t to gloat. Skill Rank will affect your wait time, I`m guessing less players at higher ranks 1,500 + a bit more. Less players up in those ranks..

Unless you play A LOT and are REALLY GOOD. you won`t get into those ranks. We`re talking 2000 Skill Rank and more.

Another game I play I wait 1-2 minutes or less, and this game has a bigger budget than Disc Jam. I feel Disc Jam has the matchmaking very well made for the player base.

The JamShop. You can buy comestic stuff. Makes ya look pretty! Kahuna (new character) costs some in game Jamoleons (points accumulated in matches or bought in the Jamshop)

I bought the game and bought some Jamoleons. 15-20$ worth. (Don't remember how much)
I Didn't play Beta or be in the community, I just love this F****ing game and seeing how I play for FREE, I choose to support the devs this way.

Kahuna is new content, it is free. More content is likely on the way. You don't invest in future development like servers if you don't plan to expand.

Play the game, collect Jamoleons and get Kahuna or buy the coins for it and support the devs so you can keep playing the game...for free...

Kahuna is free...play game + get Jamoleons = unlock Kahuna...for...FREEEEEE

Just saying.

It makes me sad you feel this way. How about we play against each other and if you win, you`ll have enough Jamoleons to buy Kahuna.

I CHALLENGE YOU TO A DUEL!? DUAL!? WHATEVER! A DISC JAM BATTLE!!!

Even in the high ranks of 2000 or more it's not that bad, it's longer but after 2 minutes it searches for anyone anyway so even if it were particularly slow that day you'd still find someone, albiet quite a distance away from your SR.

I'd say they are fully deserved considering what a path the game creators go. Especially in this day and age, customers should stop bending over and take one up the ass simply because they are like you: Cows that let themself get happily milked instead of speaking up if something, for which they paid for, goes in a wrong direction.
Otherwise, the future of gaming will consist only of ♥♥♥♥ like NBA 2K18 (Ridiculous Microtransaction madness on top of a 60€ game that is full of bugs and clearly unfinished, for those who haven't heard)

Originally posted by Camaflooge:

The thing is a pay character and other pay for items and microtransactions isn't what this game needs. What this game needs is more maps, maybe bots, more game modes, more depth. Anything to get actually people playing .
A character and microtransactions won't bring people back to this game.
This game is dead on the PC, that's a fact. Look at Steamcharts. Free Weekend brought the peak up to 1065 people on at the same time (which is not that great for a Free 2 Play Weekend that usually draws in several thousand people) and what happened? Immediately afterwards the numbers dropped to new record low numbers.

Clearly what the developers consider "needed" is not actually what people want. They basically completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up and pay the price for it now. 9.2 players on average.

How is it wrong to bring that up? How is that "horrible"? We paid for this product, we have a right to voice our oppinion and express our thoughts. Especially since we paid for it. Don't know why apologists show up with non-arguments and stupid ♥♥♥♥ acting as if criticising a product is illegal and the worst thing to do....as i said, people like you are the reason the gaming industry is in such a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up state, because people like you eat happily all the ♥♥♥♥ those companies serve, never complaining or thinking what they do is wrong or at least questionable but rather even defending them.

If the money from the JamShop isn't used to do things like this in the near future then yes, it won't last long. I do agree there. It needs some additions to get a more players.

A few new Jam Courts could be nice.

Maybe a few Custom unranked game mutators, like faster discs, dual disc games, random environmental obstacles coming up from floor to ♥♥♥♥ up that "perfect" shot .

Also as for SteamCharts...

Crossplay works fine for me. I get games, I play. I rarely wait long. Whats the big deal with that? 9 people on PC at a time? I've played against more than 9 different players on PC...not in the same night. With Crossplay I get games against PS4 players. Same game, whats the problem with amount of players on at the same time on ONE platform. None? Crossplay works.

Damn man you went crazy. You always assume everyone is what you think they are?
Rhetorical question, don't answer I don't really give a ♥♥♥♥. lol

While I understand that the priorities we choose might not necessarily align with an individual's preference, we're doing things in the order we feel will benefit the most people. Given that we're a small team of 2, I'm happy with what we've been able to accomplish so far, although I understand it may not be as fast as some would like.

As for Kahuna, he is unlocked by earning Jamoleons in-game the same as any other content (except you don't have to randomly get him out of the Prize Machine). The data that we've collected show that most players would earn 25,000J from a weekend of play or so. We do now offer the Jam Shop as a shortcut for those who are interested in it but it is by no means mandatory. The unfortunate reality is that content is expensive and time-consuming to produce (especially characters). Since we transitioned to dedicated servers, we're also effectively paying money for every match played. As much as we love Disc Jam, it's also our full time jobs and if we stop being able to afford additional content for it we'll eventually have to move on to something else. Our intention is to provide a way for players to support us if they want to while ensuring that everything can still be unlocked without having to pay anything at all.

Thank you for your hard work. It is appreciated.

You are totally right , that's why they added a cash shop...oh wait...

That's has nothing to do with the player base going downhill and the server being freed ...right ?!?! Because you know... less player = less stress = better connection.....

Like many said this should all been in the game from the beginning , the only point that is excusable would be cross play because they had to deal with Sony. But then again they should have done that before releasing the game.

Everything was added BECAUSE the game was dying miserably not because they WANTED To give us cross platform or anything , i'm willing to bet at that time they were working on Micro Transaction/Cash Shop and had to put it on pause to save their product.

Thanks for being a reckless spender ....? Also the game isn't free , not on PC at least and it shows you own it on steam so you didn't get it free.

That's the not definition of the word Free.

Free
adverb
1.
without cost or payment.
"ladies were admitted free"
synonyms: without charge, free of charge, for nothing;

It's not because you have the option to buy it with in-game currency that it's free. Free would have been what the OP was talking about , giving out the content instead of locking it behind a grind wall or of course 7$.
