Any depth or challenge to this one?
Saw this on sale and i'm thinking about buying it, like with all Hyperdimension games i'm drawn in by the art style.

However I always seem to run into the same problem with all of them.
All of the previous games have held little to no challenge and very little complexity/depth in the gameplay/story, i feel like i've seen most of what the game has to offer within a couple of hours and subsequently get bored very quickly.

I'm wondering now that they're trying the SRPG category if this one is any different? i.e Are there multiple ways to progress or things to consider when playing, or will I wind up using the same tactics/approach in every battle? Any neat end game thing to work towards, etc?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Noire doesn't put you on limited resources, like some other SRPG (like Fire Emblem or Yggdra Union), but if you don't over-grind or use DLC items too early (they are meant for endgame), you will probably find game quite challenging on hard difficulty.

In terms on tactics, I mostly focus on unit positioning to reduce SP usage or build up Lily Gauge for ultimate attacks, than on taking advantage of things like elevations or flanking enemies. However, most maps do require a specific tactical approach: like a maze where narrow corridors make you unable to walk in formation, with powerful boss with long attack range in the end. Or a map where you have to cross the river on floating logs, and if you are not careful, you can agro more enemies then you can handle on the other side.

Progression-wise, the main story is linear, but there are numberous side-missions you can do as well. The game also introduces the charactrers gradually, and each new chapter will offer you new characters to play with, so it is unlikely you will get bored.

This game is way more strategic that the main series. I've had to get creative several times trying to complete different objectives (It's not always defeat the boss). I'd say it's a good strategy game and if you play on hard, will absolutly give you a challenge.

While the option to grind the difficulty into nothing is there, if you only use it to keep side characters on par with the main team, you'll find the game isn't a snoozefest. I wouldn't call it hard, but there's enough variety to keep it interesting.

Yeah, this has been my experience as well. My #1 issue is when trying to get everything, and the boss just wipes out my party (having enough Lily to summon backup characters lets me finish the battle though). If I didn't focus on that, I could beat the boss with some pretty easy startegy.

I'm playing on the middle difficulty and find that I'm struggling just a little bit, and yep, it keeps it from getting boring. I especially will go into a level, not knowing how some enemy will act, and then start deploying a strategy. I THEN find out what a better tactic is, but too late. I could restore the game and use a better strategy, but I'm finding it more fun to fix my mistakes over using optimal strategy
