Must Have Mods for Torchlight 1
Just got Torchlight from the Humble Indie Bundle, and before I start playing, I wanna build the best possible experience for my first playthrough. So, what mods would you recomend?

Nothing pretaining to cheating, just gameplay tweeks and fixes, maybe some extra content.

Dont use mods at all when you play TL1 the first time. :-)

Yeah the best first time expirience would be without mods

If you must have mods the first time through, I'd say just stick to user interface mods that don't change any game mechanics. For example, I run mods to make the damage numbers display smaller on the screen, loot names have no border and be smaller, and to make the announcer less annoying (Announcer for the gajillionth time- "You have set off a trap." Me- "RRRGH! I KNOW!").

I'd get the Champions mod. Adds a bit of flavor without changing things drastically.

Avoid mods until you've completed the game once.

That being said. Check this out: http://www.runicgamesfansite.com/downloads.php

And to download/install/manage your mods, I recommend this: http://www.runicgamesfansite.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=698

Not sure what everyone else is running. I mainly have reskins and custom classes. I've left most of the base mechanics of the game in place. There is a column in the corner that lists the most popular files. You can look through those to get a good idea.

Oh wait, I almost forgot! You want a must have mod? This is a must have mod!

By far one of the best mods for TL1 would be SorrySoldOuts textures. While not exactly a mod, it makes the game look freaking incredible. I highly recommend searching for it and giving it a shot.

Definantly install SorrySoldOut's texture mod, first playthrough ot not. It's a MASSIVE improvement over vanilla. I also strongly recommend Emberfiend: http://www.runicgamesfansite.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=864

Just so anyone showing up here later from Google knows, RGF has a new mod manager known as ModDrop[www.moddrop.com], and it contains all the mods on RGF but installs them MUCH easier.

You don't actually need mods. If I were to suggest something, I'd suggest some rebalance mods. Like the ones that focus on Rogue Vanquisher or Caster Alchemist(making one actually viable and other more up to par).

Just to counterpoint this statement- installing mods in Torchlight is literally just unpacking them to C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\runic games\torchlight\mods. That being the case I can't see why anyone would need to install a third party mod manager.

Lastly, a simple Google search of ModDrop turns up many complaints against the program. Buyer beware. . .

Consider the following:
1- Many people do prefer to have a one-click solution for mod installs
2- A mod manager offers features for managing and backing-up your mods between computers.
3- All of the "simple google search" results with complaints come from a single community, which just happens to have a rival website and mod manager.
