Retirement Strategy
Im about to retire my first character. Just wondered what everyone's/anyone's strategy is when they retire a character.

Its my first one (have others but were created new).
1. Its a fighter. Maxxed out at Lvl 100.
2. Has Gold items in every slot except for a ring (green), amulet (blue) and gloves (purple).
3. Have the stash chest full of ember (flawless, star, moslty polished and a few cut).
4. Have many other cut and standard embers on the ground.
5. Have the shared stash full of gold items from various levels and various types (swords, staffs/wands, pistols/xbows), & various apparel.
6. Have a few chaos gems on the ground.
7. Have many 2-4 item purple suits/items on ground.
8. Have many dull, cracked, discolored ember on the ground.
9. Have many 20 item heal and mana potions on the ground.

Heres my plan:
1. Remove most of the lesser items from the shared stash.
2. Have the best gold item that can be used by any class retired. Everyhing else into the shared stash.
3. Put the flawless and polished ember in the shared stash.
4. Put three BIG fish into the shared stash.
5. Put a few spells into the shared stash. Namely Haste, Portal & identify.

Sell everything else.

Is this a good strategy? Anything I should change, reconsider?

It seems like you kept a lot of stuff.
Any way you can move all those to a storage Alt if you want to continue hoarding items for all your other characters especially the gems collection, plus it make subsequent characters lvl faster since you have all the items already. If you do retire any character, make sure that it doesn't have any items & gold on them (in shared stash is okay) since that character is pretty much gone.

I would suggest if it's not in hardcore mode, to heirloom an item into hardcore since non-hardcore and hardcore's stash are seperate. Start building up items and heirlooming to hardcore mode if you like. That way, at least you have an item in hardcore to help you (just don't die with it :x). Then when you start hardcore, I suggest hardcore casual and build your way up since you have to play each difficulty to gain its respective hardcore achievement if you're going for that.

Ignore everything, If it's already in hardcore mode :)

I did. Hoarded over +700 items at the village (according to my sell count after I retired). I got rid of most of the stuff and only kept the best gems and items across levels and classes in the shared chest.

Too late about the gold... wasnt sure about transferring gold.... to the shared stash!

I did heirloom some armor for subsequent Hard and Vhard runtrhoughs, but I will remember the tip about hardcore. Many thanks :)
