Can't find quest item?

Hi there!

I just finished the main stroyline and have started on the Shadow Vault quest series. However, it seems I am stuck from the get-go, because I can't find the quest item from the first quest given to you by the pygmy (I think) shaman Gar. It's supposed to be on the first floor but there is nothing there. Is this a bug or am I just missing something? It occured to me I might need to go the first floor of the mines, since the quest log doesn't specifically say 'Shadow Vault', but that seems a bit silly since Gar is standing at the entrance of the Shadow Vault.

Any advice?

Sometimes the items won't spawn, in which case you can abandon the task and get one for the next floor.

That's what I did, so he sent me to the third floor and gladly I was able to complete that quest :) I nearly failed it again though, because apparently the items he asks for can be sold to vendors. And since I blindly sell anything that doesn't have the stats I want, I nearly lost the second quest item as well xD

I feel your pain. I too just started the Shadow Vault quests.
On more than one occasion I sold the quest item for Gar. I've even sold the Ember I'm tasked to find in the vault by accident.
I don't even chance it anymore. I portal out of the dungeon the moment any quest/task is completed. I may make 3 trips but it saves in frustration.
I've, so far, never had any of the quest items not spawn. I've always picked them up but, sadly, sold them before I realized I had.
