From what I remember, it was the Torchlight logo with the three characters underneath it. It came with a DVD-style shell where you had to install it. I remember playing it before buying it again on Steam just to have it in my library. The back had a few paragraphs breaking down the story, how it was a dungeon crawler, and that you got to pick a dog or cat for your adventure!
It wasn't a Steam key, it was just on a DVD-ROM or CD-ROM, one of those for sure. I remember playing it for a bit, then stopped, then got back into it when I bought it again on Steam.
No, not at all. The ones they sold in my Best Buy store in New York had the regular Torchlight game with a DVD or CD-ROM with a serial key you had to install the good old fashioned way. This was common back in 2009 and I for sure remember Torchlight II having a Steam Key since it said on the box "Steam Account Required" since it had co-op and multiplayer.
No worries, my friend :-)
