Cannot pick up Adamant Ember

So I am playing Torchlight for the first time and just gotten to lvl 28, I have the quest active and I found the ember. Problem is that right on top of it is a dungeon shopkeeper and I cannot pick up the ember, because talking to the npc has higher priority. So help pls, how do I get around this?

I have encountered this problem and I think the only thing you can do is abandon the quest sorry :(
