Can't assign larger health potions
Trying to assign larger health potions to my hot bar... But they don't appear. All I get is skills, spells, and fish... No items at all.

No health or mana potions.

Any fixes?

The game started with health and mana potions already assigned to keys on the left side of your hot bar. Are you saying you cannot assign higher level ones?

The only places you cannot assign potions are the few slots where your attack skills go - usually the left and right mouse buttons.

Yup, I can't assign higher level ones to any other spots, not even the ones that have the potions already assigned to them.

Have you tried getting Steam to verify the game files? You can also try deleting the local_settings file in the game file folder. If it's like Torchilght 2, the game will make a new local-settings file as soon as you start playing it, so no harm done. On Torchlight 2, this file gets corrupted easily, so it's often my first suggestion when there are problems. I've never needed to do it on Torchlight 1, though, so I don't know if this is a fix. Torchlight 1 is even more stable and unbuggy than Torchlight 2. Both games are quite stable, though.

On Windows 10, the files for TL1 are here:

This PC/LocalDisk(C:)/Users/Name(name that you've given your computer)/AppData/Roaming/runic games/torchlight

FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT, I think it was a bad mod that increased stack size, after removing it, I could assign different potion sizes to NEW characters, but ,my old game saves were broken.

here's what I had to do to WIPE those broken characters completely (in case anyone is looking for a fix in the future)

TURN OFF STEAM CLOUD SAVES.

1) Right click on the game title in the library
2) popup window, select UPDATES tab
3) bottom of that page, uncheck "Enable Steam Cloud Synchronization"
4) Close that window
5) Restart Steam (This is important, yes must do this before continuing.)

DELETE LOCAL STEAM CLOUD SAVED DATA
1) Open the folder where Steam is installed (ACTUAL Steam app, not the game)
2) Open the folder userdata
3) There will be a folder with a series of numbers, this is your steam user id number.
3a) if you have more than one username for steam, you'll have to find the right user id number.
4) Open the folder for the correct user id.
5) Look for a folder called 41500 (this is the steam cloud synch folder.)
6) Delete 41500 (Or move it somewhere else out of the steam directory)

DELETE CORRUPTED GAMESAVE
1) Open C:\Users\<userName>\AppData\Roaming\runic games\torchlight

Then start a new game, ensure everything is working again. Then turn back on CloudStorage if you're into that sort of thing.

__________

There is a mod called ScrollsToSpells that moves scrolls and potions to the spells tab, and increases their inventory size to 99. Don't use that... that's what broke my game. There are plenty of inventory size increase mods that *DO* work... but that isn't one of them.

Thanks for the information. I forgot about the possibility that you were using mods. I've never used a mod on this game, since I'm too lazy to get something not on Steam. I'm glad you figured out what was wrong.
