Vasman and the Shadow Vault
I'm currently working on the post-story dungeon, and there are three NPCs that give out quests. Two of them give me quests one floor down from the quest I just completed, but Vasman (the one that asks you to find magic stones) mostly does that, but will sometimes ask me to find a magic rock on some random floor I've already completed. It was no problem when I was on Floor 7 and he asked me to go back to Floor 5, but when I was on Floor 16, he asked me to go back to Floor 10 and when I was on my way, I got stuck ("glitched" between some object and a wall) and the only way out was to open a new Portal, losing my progress and making me have to redo half the dungeon. I'm currently on Floor 27 and he wants me to go back to Floor 18.

Is there a way to jump around in the Shadow Vault, or should I just abandon the Vasman quest line?

Abandon Vasman's quest. He'll give you a new one on another floor. You should be able to keep doing this until he gives you one on a floor you like.

Thanks. I initially meant "abandon his quest" as "ignore." I didn't realize abandoning and reclaiming would give me a different quest.
I'm back on track now.

Hey, glad to hear it.

For those who arrive at this topic even today, you can currently solve this problem with a little attention when receiving the quest, if Vasman offers quest on the wrong floor on Shadow Vault, just select "Decline" and talk to him again until he offers the correct floor.

So I've already beaten Ordrak a long time ago, and on one of my newer characters I'm able to go directly into the Shadow Vault without having completed the main quest. However, I just retired a character, and I was planning on taking the descendant character into the Shadow Vault. When I go down to the entrance, there's nothing there. Is it supposed to be like this?

Did you take a quest from the quest givers on either side of the entrance yet? That should open the Shadow Vault. Either that, or you got confused as to which character was the retired character and which one was the brand new one.

Mmm no, there's just nothing down there. No NPCs. Could it be because my other characters are all on normal difficulty but my new descendant character is on easy?

No, that should not make any difference. Your heir should have access to the vault. Did your heir receive the heirloomed item with the added stats?

Yeah, but I couldn't equip it yet due to the level requirement.

Hmmm. Well, getting the heirloom item in your heir's stash when you started the game proves that you are on the actual descendant character. The game should have given you the Shadow Vault. Have you tried getting Steam to verify the game files? Do you know how to do that?

Right-click, Properties, Installed Files, Verify integrity of game files, right? Did that, loaded up my descendant character again, still no Shadow Vault.

Sorry to hear that.
Okay. The only other thing I can think of is to delete the local_settings.txt file. It gets corrupted easily on both TL1 and TL2. A new one will be created when you start the game up again, so it's safe to delete it. You just might need to reset whatever settings you had before. Deleting that file tends to fix a lot of seemingly unrelated issues.

Nope, that didn't work.

I started up another new character, not a descendant, and he also does not have access the Shadow Vault. Maybe what I need to do is go beat Ordrak again with one of my characters? Maybe somehow the game forgot that I beat him already, and so that particular trigger got turned off for new characters?

I think only descendants get access to the Shadow Vault right away.

Okay so I beat Ordrak again, and that did the trick...I now got access to the Shadow Vault on all my other characters again.
