It flows pretty well following The Murkoff corporation.
"Cuz bad reviews"
Taking a step back and comparing both games... Outlast 2 tops them all in my opinion. Heres why...
GAMEPLAY is improved in the second game.
-Both games had a lot of running, and you could actually run more in Outlast 1 because the enemies would never catch you. (People complain about running but forget Outlast 1 had more scenarios of running)
You have to HIDE in some cases in Outlast 2.
-Even on highest difficulty in Outlast 1 you can just kite the enemy.
MEMORABLE moments were everywhere in the second game.
CHARACTERS were very fleshed out and more memorable.
-Outlast 1 had good characters as well, but overall I had to play a second time to get their names memorized and such.
STORY wise... Outlast 2 sold it for me. It was bigger, scarier, and darker and I could connect more with the protaganist.
Essentially... its all subjective at the end of the day, but atleast when I compare the two Outlast 2 beats Outlast 1 by miles...
And I would be happy to discuss more in detail on why I think so.
At the end of the day, its all subjective. And my opinion is no higher, or different than yours.
I for one agree with all of those reviews. Outlast 2 was way worse than the first one and felt more like a "chase simulator" than anything else in my opinion.
To answer your OP though:
It is a different story.
The same company is doing some crap yet again (I know, I know...not lazy at all) but you have different characters, a different protagonist, a different setting and, well, everything else is just different as well.
If you loved the story of the first one and want to know more about that don't buy this game.
If you are fine with having a different story and all of that go ahead and buy it. If you liked the first one for its gameplay mechanics go get the second one. They really didn't add anything worth talking about that's new.
I thought both games lined up perfectly. As long as there was a mention/note of the Murkoff Corporation everything seems to connect.
The main character of the whole series seems to be the Murkoff corporation.
You cant really follow the journalists... cause they keep suffering and dying and thats cool to me because I dont like invincible characters like the ones in Resident Evil.
It would get really boring if everything was still inmates in an asylum...
Overall, were following Murkoffs horrible experiments.
Outlast 1 was an experiment.
Outlast 2 is still an experiment.
Yes I agree, their both very different stories, but thats good because we wont ever get used to the "horror" like... Resident Evil where its zombies every game...
Both games connect with eachother very well, when you understand that the journalists like Miles, Waylon, and Blake are not the main characters.
Murkoff is our main character, its what the first game was, and its in the second.
