HOO BOY. SEXUAL VIOLENCE IN OUTLAST 2.
So, as many of you know, news outlets have been covering that the game Outlast 2 will not be allowed to be released in Australia due to a scene in the game portraying sexual violence. I've seen many posts addressing the "ban" situation, but I'm more intrigued about this scene.

Now, there's a spoiler for a full scene in game you can find here

But, I was thinking about this. And yes, Outlast is a VERY dark game with a lot of disturbing undertones and implications but we've never had ACTUAL dark things happen to the main character in a sexual manner. I'm just curious what you all think about this? Is Red Barrels going too far with this? Do you think it's worth the controversy? Would you think sexual violence is going a BIT too far, even for Outlast standards? Genuinely curious what you all think about this.

Being forced to watch your vr gf get gang raped chained up sounds pretty harsh imo.

Genarly I think sexual violence to be worst than any other type of violence... I see rape as more revolting than murder even. From this perspective I kinda of get that.

I mean, if I had a daughter for example and she gets murdered, I would let the police handle it and bring justice to the criminal... but if she gets raped, I feel like my anger would be beyond control and I might take the matter on my own hands and end up doing something stupid...

[SPOILERS] That said, for some reason reading the scene didn't shock me for the simple fact that the sexual violence was made by a female creature forcing sex into the male protagonist. I believe I have more of a feminism side in most scenarios, but when it came to rape, it feels a lot more "wrong" if it's a man sexualy assaulting a woman than if it's a woman sexualy assaulting a man. Not saying it's ok, but the simple fact that in the game its a "woman raping a man" make it more tolerable... Actually it doesn't disturb me at all... it would, if it was a male creature raping a woman."
It's a psychological horror game, so it's going to need to mess with your mind by asking this simple question.

"What would you do in this position?"

I don't know if there should be anything else to elaborate on this, other than for a game depicting what could possibly happen in real life (Minus all the crazy stuff, magic, etc.) It's going to need to mess with you a lot and make you feel like its disgusting (Unless you've already matured and can handle it).

I can probably handle it, since it said you can't exactly see it, but you know what's happening. I think it'll just make this more of a horror games. After all, they said it's just made up, and Blake is just imagining it.

Your wife is chained up getting assaulted in the background. The scenario is grim scene.

The main character witnesses his wife being assaulted in that manner before he gets anything done to him. as in, there are male creatures/people doing that to the guys wife and then he gets jumped by a female one. And that is the part that happens just under the view of the player. the wife's part is right there in front of you. The devs should be ashamed for even thinking this was fine in the first place. Anyone who thinks this is fine should be on a list somewhere.
