Normal or Hard?
Judging from the placement of the difficulty choices one could assume "hard" was actually normal and "normal" is easy...or maybe there simply is no easy difficulty. Which one did you choose? I want a challenge but i don't want to be overwhelmed...

I have it on the lowest difficulty setting, normal I think. I end up playing certain spots 3, 4, 5, even 6 times on occasion because it gets pretty difficult & finding the right path/sequence is pretty rough some times.
I'm on hard and Marta is relentless, pointless hiding in barrels since she finds me couple seconds later and pickaxes me in the ♥♥♥♥ anyway. I think they have heightened senses on the higher difficulties

Their senses are obnoxious on normal. I would hate having to play it on hard.

No matter what difficulty you play, you are going to die. Outlast is not in any sense a casual game, and it shouldnt be. But i must say, im not sure if its the level design or what else but death is way to frequent in this game, i dunno maybe im just bad. But the only real difference the harder difficulties bring is the AI being more of a prick, less batteries / bandages, and it takes fewer hits to die. If you are new to this type of game then go normal for sure, if you are experienced in Outlast then start on hard, alternate to normal at some points (because there will be points of the game that are utter BS) and play on insane and above if you hate yourself.

I wanted to do the tough guy and do nightmare for my first party, it's just chain death in some part, even in dark souls I didnt die that much

Na your not bad, Outlast 2 just suffers from some very questionable game design elements. Its nearly completely unfair in some situations that you as the player can hardly handle/control. Not even a game like Dark Souls is as unfair as this one can be at certain points.

i did it on nightmare on my first go, because, well i played the first one and the dlc on nightmare from the get go also, so why not right? well, here's tons of trial and error in this game, and playing on nightmare pretty much everything 1 shots you, so yeah, youre gonna die ALOT. but its fun, atleast for most of the time. i like dying in gruesome ways in horror games, lol.

This is true, you will die playing this game.
