How to prevent monsters to spawn?
Hi,

Just bought the game. I really wanted it on PC since its release on iphone. It's finally here, thanks.

Apparently there are a lot of similar stuff with Minecraft. But I don't really understand how monsters spawn. It seems they come at night, but what about the light then? I dug a cave and put torches on the way to get rid of dark spots but monsters keep coming. Why? It's annoying.

They dont care about light or dark areas. Apart from sunlight ofcourse
I dont think you can really stop monster spawning. Even when you close the hole u came in, they just spawn

Monsters shouldn't spawn in well lit areas, could you please provide a screenshot of the specific zone which causes spawns even if lit? So that we can understand if it's desidered behavior or not.

Yes, it happen to me also with just half lenght of that your tunnels have. If torches are designed to stop mobs spawning, maybe the range is too short and needs to be higher. Torches are working because in a shorter tunnel mobs don't spawn.
I was wondering this as well.

My tunnels are two blocks high, with two block spaces between each torch. The aggro mobs still spawn, sometimes in a .. well .. mob.

The colored torches are worthless. The effect is nice, but they make it hard to see the area.

Even with last patch, i found that it's better to make tunnels 1 block high and wide at maximum. When i'm going down, after opening some more blocks to mine or after looting a dungeon, i close with dirt all the open space and leave just my tunnel to prevent mobs spawning all around. If you leave just 1 block, the monsters cannot spawn. I put a torch after 6 tunnel blocks.

It remembers me to minecraft and the space necessary to spawn a mob. The difference is the range of light to stop them from spawning and that in minecraft i could make a 2 wide blocks and 4 high blocks stairs with a torch after 10 blocks and still stopping the monsters. Here 1 opened space to the right or left and they seem to be able to spawn even with a torch just 2 or 3 blocks away.

You are welcome. Also, i forgot something: i put my torches each 6th block because i use wooden platforms with 2 blocks between them to be able to jump up when i need to and i place the torch just below the 3rd platform. But i'm sure there are more combinations :D

Behavior has been radically changed, this shouldn't happen anymore in 2.9.1.3, but mind that more you are deep in the world and less you will be protected with light!
