Of the victims Imposter Byakuya without a doubt. I understand why he was the first victim, but I really would've liked to have seen his character play out a bit more in the story proper, possibly getting "found out" by Hajime while he was still alive. Another potential plot point could've been a competition for leadership of sorts between Hajime and Imposter Byakuya with Nagito seemingly playing both sides against each other.
For the killers? Mikan, Mikan, and Mikan. If there is a character in DR2 that comes close to reaching the attachment I had for the original DR1 cast, Mikan is it. A prior post in this thread mentioned her as unnerving, but that's precisely her charm as far as I'm concerned. She's overly apologetic and timid, but "behind the mask" you can tell that she's working things out differently than her demeanor suggests, even differently than any of the other characters. Instead of her catching the "despair disease" and remembering her nature before entering the Neo World Program, I would've liked to have seen her progress naturally into despair through the course of the events portrayed in-game. It would've made for an interesting plot point once Junko shows up.
Of the victims, Komaeda by a long shot, he's my favorite in the entire series too.
Of the killers Gundham. I liked him so much and when he was executed it hit me hard. He's my second favorite character in the series. It hurt to lose Gundham and then Komaeda right after each other!
Victims: I liked Mahiru, Ibuki, Nekomaru, and Nagito.
Killers: I liked Mikan, Peko and Chiaki.
And from the killers/victims: I loved Nagito, Chiaki and Mikan. The first two being the reason I have the two categories mixed as I absolutely refuse to believe Chiaki was the killer in this case. (That f-ing Nagito just suicide bombed her :c)
At first I didn't like Chiaki that much, but as the plot progressed I fell more and more in love with her character, but I finally got heart-broken at the end of chapter 5 and chapter 6. She's easily my favourite along Nagito.
Mikan was the one that caught my attention from the first second and the development/plot twist that she got at chapter 3 didn't anything else but make me love the character more, specially since in the end I couldn't get to feel anything else but pity for her after learning the truth of her "remembering desease" in chapter 6; The poor girl just got manipulated by Junko.
Finally, Nagito was a mad bastard, but was performed so brilliantly that I couldn't help to love and hate him at the same time. Coming as a friendly guy in chapter 1, he just got to show how twisted he was as the game kept progressing. Also the guy showed a dedication to his ideals that finally led him to commit that suicide/murder to eliminate that hopeless despair that filled the remaining students irl.
Survivors: I was very unhappy with surviving cast. The only one I liked all that much was Fuyuhiko, and even then I hated him at first. Kazuichi got annoying to me, Akane not as much but still did, Sonia was pretty cute but not as much as some others. And Hajime is just kinda there, but he was really cool at the end.
Victims: For the whole first game I HATED Byakuya, and right as the second game begins, I start to like him more, and then DEAD, and then CRY, and then it WASN'T Byakuya? I feel like I would like Mahiru way more if she lived longer, probably among my favorites, and yes, I am on Island mode and got all of her free time events, but I feel like there is more to her that I'm missing. Maybe her ending will make me fall in love or something? Ibuki was so cool, she's tied with Sans as my spirit animal. I was practically crying before I even had 100% confirmation she was the victim. Hiyoko was an annoying little ♥♥♥♥ I quickly got tired of. Nekomaru I never disliked, but didn't really care for either, like Akane. I really liked Nagito at first, and then later he got annoying with all his hope crap and I'm like "Nagito, just leave. Go." and then things happened and I'm like "OMG NOT LIKE THAT YOU IDIOT."
Killers: Teruteru's a creep, but I felt bad for him in the end. Peko reminds me of Kyoko in a few ways, but in her own way she's really kinda adorable. Especially after her first free time event. Mikan... OMG MIKAN WHY DID YOU NEED TO BREAK MY HEART LIKE THIS CRY CRY SOB WEEPING. Oh, sorry, what was I saying? Oh yea. Mikan's my favorite DR2 character, and after Chihiro destroyed my very being with feels in the first game, I didn't want who I see as her DR2 counterpart to go out the same way. It wasn't the same way, I can tell you that much. Gundham is another one of my favorites, he was pretty much the only one who started entertaining and didn't get old to me, and I think he's one of the only killers in DR history that didn't change their speaking pattern by the end. In DR1, it was way more subtle. Speaking of not changing their speaking pattern, Chiaki was another one of my favorites. Why she had to die was the one major reason I didn't like Nagito, but she was like Chihiro's appearance and some of her/his cuteness mixed with Kyoko's brain and was occasionally absentminded, but in a rather hilarious in a cute way.
Killer- Gundham. I'm not counting Chiaki since even though she was the blackened, she was tricked into throwing what just happened to be the right thing to kill Nagito. With Gundham, he had a man-to-man mortal combat with Nekomaru, and emerged victorious, then he used Nekomaru's death as a stepping stone to fill the rest of the gang with hope. There's nothing more manly in that game than that.
Victim- that's a hard one. It's between Ibuki and Mahiru. I liked both of them. Mahiru was kind but stern. Apparently she was kind to a fault if she was willing to cover up a friend's mistake for her. On the other hand, Ibuki brought so much energy to the group, something that was sorely needed.
My favorite victim is the Ultimate Imposter. Because he is a far better Byakuya than the Byakuya, that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ prick! His title should be Ultimate Byakuya.
And my favorite culprit is Tanaka, the Forbidden One. He is a good character, and easily one of my favorite after the fourth case ( alongside with Sakura). The fair duel to death for the sake of survivors reminds me the sacrifice Sakura done.
Survivor: Hajime. Yes, I actually liked the main char this time, a lot. He was rather relatable and down to earth, and plenty intuitive to pick up on small details frequently. I was glad he was the MC.
Victim: Ibuki. She was plenty of fun- a bit wild and crazy and not always relatable but, very sociable and friendly. It is as the group stated afterward: it's like a lot of the group spirit was ripped out after Ibuki had died. It got more quiet (in a way).
Killer: Wtf. Chiaki. The fact she's even in this category isn't fair, it's not legitimate. But...it is what it is.
Victim: Hm, hard one. I guess Byakuya. Togami is one of my personal favourites and I was looking forward to spending some time with him.
Killer: Peko. While I felt bad for all of them (and I was almost crying for Chiaki), I was really depressed when she and Fuyuhiko told their backstory. It was really tragic and it felt fresh to see something like this.
Victim: Nagito hands down. He was such an interesting character! He really just added so much to the game and I loved the twists that he introduced.
Killer: This one is tougher. Chiaki comes close, but it would have to be Mikan. I really enjoyed her character at the start, she was so endearing. But I also just loved the way they twisted her around during the third case. We got to see this sort of warped version of her and it made the case great. I loved it.
Victim: Definitely Nagito for me, mostly due to his personality and how much his free time events kind of make you understand his screwed up perspective. Plus he's pretty much the only victim who's case I call Nagito's Case, instead of the name of the killer, it's usually pretty easy to forget about the victims in these cases, although that's mostly due to how he set it up.
Killer: Gundham Tanaka, I don't think I really need to explain this one.
