The anime and books worth it? *spoilers all three games*
I've finished all three games, excluding Ultra Despair Girls which I'm going through next. Still haven't read the unlocked short story in DR2. it said it was based off of DRZero so should I read that first?

As for the games, I played them out of order, didn't effect my enjoyment at all, other than the fact that the production values between the 3 are very noticeable in a bad way. Most people seem to thing V3 was garbage but I liked it more than both one and two. I was disappointed by Chiaki being fake in DR2.

I loved all three games despite the fact that they are the same more-or less. Makoto and Hajime look almost identical, and Luigi erm I mean Shuichi is a redraw of the two. I mean c'mon. Ultimate Detective? Kaede (You know, Fuyohiko's sister) did all the puzzle solving for him in early V3.

Out of all the games I'd say V3 is my favorite. Can't pin down why though, it just is. I loved it, and I'd love to know more of the story. I just need to know if the anime is worth it and should I read the books in order?

In short though, this all could have been avoided if Junko just got a good pounding. Nekomaru just needed to to "it" to her, and none of this would have ever happened. It's all Nekomaru's fault. All of it. "Yeah yeah I know you're filled with despair, now shut up bend over and let's clear all that up. SHOW SOME SPIRIT!"

Danganronpa IF (the short story in DR2) makes a tiny reference to DR0, but it's nothing that you'll even noticed if you haven't read it, so read them in whichever order you like. As for Zero, I would definitely recommend it. It provides some worldbuilding, fleshes out a few character motivations and establishes some things that would be good to know before watching Danganronpa 3.
Speaking of DR3, go ahead and watch it if you want any kind of closure to the Hope's Peak saga, but only after finishing Zero and UDG!

DR3 (the anime) is a must for finishing the story of DR1 & DR2. It has both good and bad points.

DR0 (light novel) is highly recommended for explaining Junko Enoshima a bit better.I'd actually recommend it before DR3 (also, Despair Girls before DR3 if you're going to do it).

The IF story attached to DR2 is fine and worth a read if you like alternate universes. Also you get to see lots about Mukuro and it has Mondo actually being the Ultimate Biker at one point, which is definitely awesome.

The other DR light novels ... um ... they're just not so good. Kirigiri seems the most interesting to me (and also the one I haven't been able to find a translation of the end of it). Hagakure is pretty well dismissed. Togomi is pretty bad. Go ahead and read them if you like, but don't expect anything great.

Komaeda the World Ender (should be attached to V3) is pretty entertaining, though I'd hold off on watching it until you're through the Despair Arc of DR3 because it's really an extra episode that fits on the end of it before Hope Arc.

Well I've just finished the games and I'm onto the anime now. All I can say is who is this guy, and what did they do to Monokuma? The voice actors are about half completely different people. Just watching DR1 though so I'm not expecting much new here. Oddly enough id say Despair girls and V3 are my favorites so far. 2 was great until some things happened that made it not so stellar. Thank god for the story, UDG would be a terrible game otherwise.

Decided to skip the first anime. seems like a cheap yu-gi-oh style reproduction of the games. but D3 is easily one of the best anime's I've ever witnessed. That's saying something considering I have very very high standards for such media. Cant find 2.5 wondering what I'm missing. I did briefly forget that Monica is still alive. Why the massive production value increase? Still don't like the Monokuma though. Not a single puhuhuhu to be had in any of the animes.

Huh. That's weird. I'd swear I first heard his distinctive laugh in the anime. Are you watching the dub? That might be the difference.I always go for subtitles if available.

that could be it. I prefer dubs to subs for the sole reason I don't have to read what I should be watching. it seems for 2.5 I will have to.
