Nagito Komaeda (SPOILERS)
Damn, I was so sure his name was an anagram for Makoto Naegi (missing the D, I know) still though... very close.

So why didnt it happen!! he's even the ultimate lucky student!!
Because he's not Makoto? I don't see what you're complaining about here...

something like that can't be unintentional?

It was intentional. But they're not the same character. I don't get your issue here

Random Nagito-Makoto fact: "Naegi" can mean "seedling", while some of the kanji in "Komaeda", can mean "tree branches". Perhaps Nagito is what Makoto is doomed to grow into?

This would've been awesome to explore in DR3. Note that DR3 did not try to take advantage of this because DR3 is a terrible anime.

This applies to the English dub of the games/anime as well (Bryce Papenbrook).

I just finished the game, and also tought about this. I really think it was intentional, but the goal was to make the players do this correlation (at a certain point of the game, Monokuma says to Nagito that he strongly resembles someone else) and, at the end, to show a contrast between belief (Makoto) and obsession (Nagito).
All the coincidences (his style, his ultimate talent, all the speeches about hope), and some sugestive moments, for me, were the game playing with us. When some of the characters are infected by the despair disease, Nagito starts saying something about how he is wearing a fake name, what can raise some doubt on the player. But the gag is that Nagito's despair disease sympthom is the "lie disease", so the game developers are playing with our expectation about him reavealing himself as Makoto.

Thank you for speaking that truth. :8bitheart: But yeah, it's obviously an intended character feature, but I guess they left it to be mysterious and spawn theories.
