Different kinds of luck?
I was wondering if Nagitos ultimate luck was different from Makotos. I'm just curious

I think so, Nagito's luck is more like Gladstone Gander's kinda luck. xD

No, that's wrong. Makoto won the lottery, hence the Luckster title.

Yeah Luckster. You can count he had luck ONCE. Nagito have real luck/unluck "power".
Yeah, he also had his title changed meaning that the title for ultimate luckster was up for grabs anyway.
Every year, Hope's Peak had a lottery to select one ordinary student to join the Ultimates in their studies. The student who was chosen was given the title of Super High School Level (Ultimate) Luckster, becasue of the fact that they had no special talent and were chosen. The title had a down side because usually, the bearer of it often shifted from casses of extreme good luck and extreme bad luck, hence Nagito having extreme bad luck. In Danganronpa IF, it is shown that this is not exclusive to him however because Makoto gets the escape button, which electrecutes him. In both cases, they both had one final act of luck, Makoto surviving and becoming the new Ultimate Hope; an act of of Extreme Good Luck. Nagito's final act of luck on the other hand resulted in his corruption by Junko and recieving his new title as Ultimate Despair;an act od Extreme Bad Luck, before arguably his true final act of luck when he is revived by the surviving members of the Killing School Trip; an act of Extreme Good Luck.

Since you brought up the IF novel, Mukuro also points out that despite being impaled by spears, none of his vital organs or arteries were punctured. I believe that she even comments on his "Ultimate luck" after realizing this. Maybe in SDR2 the writers decided to actually use the ultimate luck as a talent but didn't really consier it in Trigger Happy Havoc? That would explain why the good luck was brought up twice in the IF novel but almost never in the first game.

The acts of luck in Danganronpa IF also proves that the luck was there in the original story, Makoto just never got in a situation that required it to show itself, which sounds better for story purposes.

I believe they do. Makoto's luck seems to be of general kind, aka you wouldn't know about it until after the "lucky" event happened. If it was his power to begin with.
Nagito's on other hand can be formulated as "the lowest chance of happening has 100% chance of happening". So it's something you can plan around somewhat, which Nagito did.
For example, if Nagito was playing Fallout 2, 51% chance to hit would be 100% chance to miss, since 49% chance to miss is lower than 51% chance to hit. Add Luck rolls on that, and he would be better off with 1 Luck to get consistent critical hits.
Might explain his chaotic behaviour, since his ultimate ability requires to be against favourable odds in order to function consistently.

I believe that there luck was the same. Nagito just more opportunities than Makoto to show it off.
