Hope Fragments/Skills from the first characters to die

I'm trying to avoid spoilers, though this is very early game stuff. Is there actually a way to get all the hope fragments and unlock the skills from the characters who die in the first chapter? You get four Free Times and if you spend all of them with one character, you still need one more, right?

(i used a gift giving guide that also has free time question answers and skill unlock descriptions to pick a character whose skill I wanted early... and now it seems impossible to get? however it also references a question I didn't get asked in those free time segments, so... what am I missing?)

You cannot complete the chapter 1 deaths, iirc. They have to be completed post-game.

so does that mean you can unlock skills post game and use them somehow? like, in some sort of NG+?

You'll have to beat the main game and skill up in Island Mode. Or, just replay the crap out of Ch 1. Your choice.

If I recall correctly, the only character whom you can't befriend completely is the murder victim of the first chapter, you can only get five of their hope fragments, and the only way to get the last one is on island mode. The rest you can get through replaying the chapter or island mode.

It would be the same for the killer of the first chapter. You have just as many free time opportunities for them as you do for the victim.

Um. You can still do their FTE in Island Mode.
