Missing Saves
So my save files have literally vanished. I just loaded the game up and they've gone; the load menu says all the slots are empty. I last played he game around 8am this morning and everything was fine; I saved the game and then quit so I could sleep but now the files are gone.
Where abouts are the save files kept so I can look to see if they've been moved or something?
Theres no reason for them to have just vanished and I haven't deleted them and no other programs have done anything to delete them either. Anyone else had this issue?

I don't have savedata.vfs in my danganronpa files. What should I do?

Also encountering this problem, a year later.

Savedata.vfs is simply missing from Documents\My Games\Danganronpa

Savedata.bak and Savedata.tmp are still there, though.

After reading all this now I'm aware of this issue. Currently I have my own saves. Is it corruption proof to create a backup of Savedata.vfs into a different folder? I'm doing this every single time when I have a major progress in the game. Once I quit after saved the game, I immediately make my way into Documents\My Games\Danganronpa and replace the freshly saved state with the backup save. I hope it will work. I want to keep the "school mode" I struggled for through the entire story.

This is what I've been doing from now on (creating a save file back-up), but make sure your steam cloud is turned off, and you have plenty of space in the C: drive, as either can cause save files to become corrupt or entirely missing.

Good luck! :ssmarie:

I'm using an external hard drive. Basically everything I will ever need is on my external drive. The internal C: drive is having the system based factory install with the consumption of downloaded and saved contents.

Just keep in mind that the save files are stored on the C: drive.

Good idea. I better place my backup saves into my external drive as well. It's hard to keep in mind that other important saves and items are on C: out there. Especially at the case when changing computer or reinstall the entire system. I love if everything is safe and sound on a specific disk which can travel between PCs.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem too. I've played the Prologue 3 times now trying to find out why it won't save my files. It's so annoying. I hope I can find an answer soon. I really want to play
There is only hope that they will found out what the problem is and fix it with patches...
Don't lose to despair yet >:D
i lost to despair after the 11th time playing the prologue

Questions for people still having this problem:
1. Are you running both the game and Steam with admin permissions? If not, does running them like that alleviate the issue?
2. Does verifying the installation through Steam (with admin permissions enabled) help create the files?

For all those missing the savedata.vfs and .bak files -- maybe my situation will help.

I noticed that I had neither file in my game folder under My Documents (just launcher, window.dat and controls.dat) and it was frustrating me that I couldn't even do fix mentioned above. I did the prologue three times and couldn't figure out why I kept losing my saves after properly saving through the handbook. Nothing would be there when I loaded the game each time (having no save data files means NOTHING was saving locally... not even to the Steam Cloud either (it said 0kb saved on my storage when I checked it under Properties for the game within Steam app).

I use an antivirus, Bitdefender, and just checked the Safe Files Application Access area... The Danganronpa launcher file was approved but not the other dr_1.exe (obviously danganronpa with its icon beside it) file! It's funny because I DID get the notice about the launcher being blocked by my antivirus when I started the program, so I was able to catch that, but NOT the other one!

Approved the other exe file and tried saving again and voilà, SAVING COMMENCES. My Cloud Save has it now as well as it having saved locally. Fingers crossed I don't have the random, spontaneous loss of saves like others above in the near future, but I plan to save copies of these save data files each time under a different folder just to be extra safe. Holy crap, what a nightmare.

So check your antivirus software (I know, "duh" says a bunch of people but I a techie dum dum). It either is interfering with the launch of this game OR the saving of it.

I'm using the backup technique of Steam. I have saved all Danganronpa progress files there. It already happened for me to lose the entire save progress on the original location 3 times by now and I could always gain it back from the backup so far. No problem since then.

Good to know! Is this the "Back up game files" under the "Updates" tab of the Properties section?

It's under "Local Files" tab you are talking about and yes that is, however I'm making manual copy on External HD as well, just in case.
