Chapter 3 not proceeding in investigation mode

(spoilers for investigation mode chapter 3)

Obviously I could be doing something wrong, but I resorted to watching let's plays and reading walkthroughs and checking every single thing I could find...

I talked to Byakuya and he ran off as normal, then proceeded to investigate the school. Then I did the nurse's office. It wouldn't let me leave as expected until I checked the trash can. When I left Byakuya didn't appear. I didn't know he was supposed to appear then, but I was locked out of the dorms, meaning I couldn't go to Yasuhiro's room. I searched the school up and down and re-examined everything and talked to everyone (but of course I can't find Byakuya), restarted the game, etc. but I can't move forward. I can leave every single area since I've checked everything, but nothing happens after leaving the nurse's office. I can't enter the living area and Byakuya is non-existent.

I hope there's a fix to this because I've saved in this state not realising I was in a glitch Or hopefully it's an error I've made playing the game but I don't think so because I've seriously combed the place

Reinstalling didn't fix

Just gonna restart from the chapter 2 trial, but in a new save file in case anyone is interested in debugging this. Hopefully it'll work this time... At least the game has good skip features

edit: Okay, new save file worked. Byakuya get. I presume my original file is still broken though. Lost time and some good presents. Hopefully this can get fixed since it's a little annoying having to start over.

I remember having a similar issue in my second playthrough of the game and things didn't progress until I just went in and left a few rooms. Doesn't seem to be working on my third though...

found the problem after all of that you needed to go back to the lab and go into the place where Ishimaru was murdered and then investigate the room one more time and then when u leave you are prompted by byakuya to go to hiros room.... Ik you already reset your game and all of that but i would be curious if i had something like that that had me stuck... took me like 20 minutes to find that out btw

I still remember it happening, dunno if I did that but I love that you responded after all this time! It'd be hilarious if I replayed those chapters just because I didn't do that! Thanks :)

This saved me from some annoying restarts I reckon, so thanks! I think it was the tarp in the equipment room that needed to be clicked in a certain order.
