School layout

The school layout has some rather strange areas, which become rather obvious on the map. Is there ever an explanation for why there are so many strange things about the layout?

What boggles me the most is the third floor layout. That's a lot of corridors that could've easily been simplified.

what about a pool on the 2nd floor?, surley that would make more sense to have on the first.

I believe at the start Kyoko mentions that the school has had some strange modifications after she finds the map of the school, so maybe that has something to do with it.

A pool on the 2nd floor isn't nearly as strange as having a pool on the floor right over the gymnasium. Both of the rooms have very high ceilings and should be intersecting each other.
