Something that bothers me about how Touko is portrayed (MAJOR UNMARKED SPOILERS)

Or rather, how Touko's mental disorder gets labelled by the game.

In Chapter 2's trial, there's a Hangman's Gambit section where you have to spell the word "schizo" to describe Touko's mental disorder. As you might already know if you've played chapter 2 to completion, Touko has multiple personalities - the Touko you got to know through the first chapter and the murderous Genocide Jill.

The thing is, schizophrenia is not a mental disorder that is connected to having multiple personalities at all. Schizophrenia means that the person who has this disorder cannot separate reality from imagination and this manifests in them e.g. hearing voices, hallucinating, etc. However, the game makes the common mistake of confusing schizophrenia with Dissociative Identity Disorder.

Dissociative Identity Disorder is characterized by a person having two or more distinct personality states or identities that control how the person acts and thinks depending on which one is currently in control. This is definitely more accurate when you want to describe the fact that Touko and Jill both inhabit the same body.

I don't know if it's possible to have this changed, but even if the official release doesn't get this corrected, I'd be very interested in any mod that corrects the terminology.

It's an extemely annoying (and more than a little insulting) choice, but I understand why they did it for the puzzle. I don't argee with it, but I understand it. At least it's the only time they use it - the characters themselves always use either DID or "split personality"

Nobody's "looking to be offended", except you maybe. We're simply discussing the factual and scientific inaccuracy of the use of "schizo". Maybe if you HAD read through TWO WHOLE PAGES instead of assuming people were offended, you wouldn't have been talking out of your behind.

First of all, English isn't my native language so there is no chance I would have guessed that word by myself (so I used a guide pretty soon and I'm not ashamed lol). And then - yes, this termin is totally incorrect. Moreover, it is used in an informal and borderline offensive form. I don't know what word was used in the original Japanese version but they surely could've done way better job translating this particular part.

In Japanese, it was just DID, or the equivilant of it anyway

Yes, and no? Layspeak often diverges from technical terms; the condition of "schizophrenia", and the noun "schizo" referring to a person with the condition, is a fairly established and relatively widespread layspeak for multiple personality disorders, despite the fact the scientific terminology has split those off into a separate classification, so it's not really surprising to translate it that way, albeit maybe a little old-fashioned.

I do recognize there is a subculture that has tabooed the word and often has strong dislike for using nouns to categorize people (e.g. preferring "a person with schizophrenia" and disliking "a schizophrenic" and especially the shortened form "a schizo"), but do keep in mind that this culture does not represent the English speaking world as a whole.

plus this is a TERRIBLE representation of DID, and they should've used alters instead of personalities. It's not multiple personalities, it is multiple people.
