How is the english dub?
I've heard it's horrible, so I'm playing with the Japanese audio right now. But what do you guys think of it?

Whoever told you that hyperbolic opinion is completely wrong. English tracks have long, long since reached equality in quality from their JP counterparts and this is no exception. A slightly higher mix of newer talents compared to veterans, but a solid language track. Maybe, occasionally, there's a bad dub out there these days, but no matter what sub-elitists want to indoctrinate you with, it's the exception than the rule.

I see.
Is there a way to switch to english dub in the game? If not, I'll just have to stick to japanese

You can switch the language track at the beginning of each new chapter. You'll have to start a "new" game via chapter select, not continue from the latest save.

I like the English dub a lot. The casting was very well-done, IMO. No idea how anyone except someone with a completely biased opinion could call the dub horrible... I guess some people just played the fanslations or watched the LPs first and don't want to accept anything new.

You can switch between both, but I liked english voices for most part.

Personally, I prefer the Japanese dub. English dub kinda ranges from "Wow, is that the best take?" to "I prefer that over the original, actually". But the middleground isn't quite appealing enough to sway my opinion in favor of English.

It falls into the middleground I see a lot, of 'both are OK, go with your preference'. I've run with the dub, and while I wouldn't call it a standout, it's solid. And Aoi having Kyuubey's VA is just darn hillarious to me whenever she interracts with Monokuma. ;)

You're basically reading it all anyway, personally I enjoyed the japanese track. That being said I've never heard the English one. In the end either is fine it's just a preference, as said you'll be reading a majority of it rather than listening.

It's not terrible, but it's not great either.

It's actually pretty good, easily on par with the Japanese, and in places is much better (Celeste's VA is awesome during her breakdown). This is one of NISAs best translations to date and actually has me more excited for the second game.

All be honest, while replaying through the first trial, to test out the english voices. I felt a bit more invested in it.
Maybe cause it's my native tongue, but still.
